Mahvash Waqar
Mahvash Waqar is a Pakistani artist and a backup vocalist for the band Laal. She is also well-known for a stint on radio as a radio host. Early life Mahvash studied Textile designing from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan. She had a keen interest in music from the beginning. So, instead of continuing her studies she decided to join what was then a very new phenomenon of FM radio stations. Radio jockey She was a well known jockey of many radio stations from 2000 to 2006. She hosted numerous shows and also worked as a producer for others. The experience she gained in radio jockeying brought her in contact with an enormous variety of music and hence she earned the name, ''Human Encyclopedia of Music''. She stressed in an interview that her main influence in music was the classic rock sound of the 1970s. Haider Rahman
Haider Rahman is a Pakistani musician and current band member of the band Laal. He plays the bansuri ''(flute)'' for the band. He also sometimes lends his voice for backup vocals. He is recognized all over Pakistan because of his being a ''shagird'' of the legendary Pakistani flute player ''Akmal Qadri'' and the famous north Indian classical musician Hariprasad Chaurasia. He also spent some time training with ''Mohammad Ahsan'' (aka ''Pappu''). Early life Haider started playing the flute at a very young age. His main inspiration was Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia with whom he spent nearly 4 months in training as a ''Shagird'' (student). Taimur Rahman
Taimur Rahman (Urdu/ pnb, تیمور رحمان) is a Pakistani college professor, political activist and musician who is the Secretary-General of the Mazdoor Kisan Party (MKP), formerly Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party (CMKP). He is the lead guitarist and spokesperson for the progressive music band Laal. He has taught political science at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) since 2002. He also taught economics at the Lahore School of Economics from 1998 to 2003. He is known for his socialist ideologies has been outspoken in his criticism of capitalist exploitation and religious fundamentalism. He is the author of the book ''The Class Structure of Pakistan'' published by Oxford University Press. Ahmed Faraz
Syed Ahmad Shah (), better known by his pen name Ahmed Faraz, ( 12 January 1931 – 25 August 2008) was a Pakistani Urdu poet, scriptwriter and became the founding Director General (later Chairman) of Pakistan Academy of Letters. He wrote his poetry under the pseudonym ''Faraz''. He criticised military rule and coup d'état in the country and was displaced by the military dictators. Awards and recognition Ahmad Faraz was first awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan and then the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2004 by the then President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf. He returned this award two years later in 2006 "as a means of protest against the actions of the Musharraf regime". On 25 August 2008, he died in Islamabad, and later Government of Pakistan conferred Hilal-e-Pakistan posthumously upon Faraz for his contribution to poetry and Urdu literature. Habib Jalib (24 March 1928 - 12 March 1993; Urdu, Punjabi: ) was a Pakistani revolutionary poet, left-wing activist who opposed martial law, authoritarianism and state oppression. Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz said that he was the poet of the masses. He opposed military coups and administrators and was duly jailed several times. Early life Habib Jalib was born as Habib Ahmad on 24 March 1928 in a village near Hoshiarpur, Punjab, British India. He migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India. Faiz Ahmad ''Faiz'' (13 February 1911 – 20 November 1984; Urdu, Punjabi: فیض احمد فیض) was a Pakistani poet, and author of Urdu and Punjabi literature. Faiz was one of the most celebrated Pakistani Urdu writers of his time. Outside literature, he has been described as "a man of wide experience" having been a teacher, an army officer, a journalist, a trade unionist and a broadcaster. General Pervez Musharraf ( ur, , Parvez Muśharraf; born 11 August 1943) is a former Pakistani politician and four-star general of the Pakistan Army who became the tenth president of Pakistan after the successful military takeover of the federal government in 1999.
