Roger Mahony
Roger Michael Mahony (born February 27, 1936) is an American cardinal and retired prelate of the Catholic Church who served as Archbishop of Los Angeles from 1985 to 2011. Before his appointment, he served as Auxiliary Bishop of Fresno from 1975 to 1980 and Bishop of Stockton from 1980 to 1985. Born in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles and raised in the city's San Fernando Valley, Mahony was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Monterey-Fresno in 1962. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Fresno in January 1975 and consecrated bishop in March 1975. Mahony was then appointed Bishop of Stockton in 1980. In 1985, he was appointed Archbishop of Los Angeles by Pope John Paul II, and became the first Los Angeles native to hold the office. The pope created Mahony a cardinal in 1991, and he voted in the papal conclaves that elected Popes Benedict XVI and Francis. Marion Mahony Griffin
Marion Mahony Griffin (; February 14, 1871 – August 10, 1961) was an American architect and artist. She was one of the first licensed female architects in the world, and is considered an original member of the Prairie School. Her work in the United States developed and expanded the American Prairie School, and her work in India and Australia reflected Prairie School ideals of indigenous landscape and materials in the newly formed democracies. The scholar Deborah Wood stated that Griffin "did the drawings people think of when they think of Frank Lloyd Wright (one of her collaborating architects)." Philip Mahony (hurler)
Philip Mahony (born 9 January 1991) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Ballygunner. He played for the Waterford senior hurling team for 10 years, during which time he usually lined out as a left wing-back. Mahony began his hurling career at club level with Ballygunner. After enjoying a hugely successful underage career, which saw him claim a collective total of seven championship medals at minor and under-21 levels, he joined the club's senior team while still a minor. The highlight of Mahony's senior career has been the winning of the Munster Club Championship in 2018, while he has also collected eight Waterford Club Championship medals. Pauric Mahony
Pauric Mahony (born 11 May 1992) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Ballygunner and was previously the captain of the Waterford senior hurling team before announcing his retirement from inter-county hurling in 2023. Playing career De La Salle College Mahony first came to prominence as a hurler with De La Salle College in Waterford. He played in every grade before eventually joining the college's senior team. On 8 March 2008, he was just 15-years-old when he won a Harty Cup medal after lining out at left corner-forward in a 1-11 to 0-07 defeat of Thurles CBS in the final. Bertha Mahony
Bertha Mahony (1882–1969), also known as Bertha Mahony Miller, is considered a figurehead of the children's literature movement. She created one of the first children's bookstores in Boston, Massachusetts. Mahony was also the founder of the ''Horn Book Magazine''. Besides being the oldest magazine of its kind in America, ''Horn Book'' remains one of the most well-known arbiters of excellence in children's publishing. Harold Mahony
Harold Segerson Mahony (13 February 1867 – 27 June 1905) was a Scottish-born Irish tennis player who is best known for winning the singles title at the Wimbledon Championships in 1896. His career lasted from 1888 until his death in 1905. Mahony was born in Scotland but lived in Ireland for the majority of his life; his family were Irish including both of his parents, the family home was in County Kerry, Southwestern Ireland. Thomas Mahony was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Dungourney and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1902 until 1907. Playing career Club Mahony played his hurling with his local club in Dungourney and enjoyed some success. He won a county senior championship title in 1902. Two more county winners’ medals followed for Mahony in 1907 and 1909. Inter-county Mahony first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with Cork as part of the Dungourney selection in 1902. John Keefer Mahony (30 June 1911 – 15 December 1990) was a Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Details Mahony was born in New Westminster, British Columbia and was 32 years old, and a major in The Westminster Regiment, Canadian Infantry Corps, during the Second World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. Francis Joseph Mahony (15 March 1915 – January 2000) was an Australian lawyer and public servant, who served as interim Director-General of Security (head of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation) for just over five months between 1975 and 1976. Junior Mahony
John "Junior" Mahony (20 August 1897 – 8 May 1973) was an Irish hurler. Usually lining out as a goalkeeper, he was a member of the Galway team that won the 1923 All-Ireland Championship. Playing career Mahony enjoyed a club career with Ardrahan that spanned three decades, however, he enjoyed little in terms of championship success. He is regarded as one of the club's greatest-ever players and was included on a special Team of the Millennium. After being selected for the Galway senior team in 1919, he held his position on the team for the next decade. He won a Connacht medal in 1922 before winning his sole All-Ireland medal in 1923 after Galway's defeat of Limerick in the final. Mahony was a runner-up in four subsequent All-Ireland finals and retired from inter-county hurling in 1929.
