Mahnaz Afkhami
Mahnaz Afkhami (Persian: مهناز افخمی; born January 14, 1941) is an Iranian women's rights activist who served in the Cabinet of Iran from 1976 to 1978. She is founder and president of Women's Learning Partnership (WLP), executive director of the Foundation for Iranian Studies and former Minister of Women's Affairs in Iran's pre-Revolution government. She has lived in exile in the United States since 1979. Afkhami has been an advocate for women's rights since the 1970s. She has founded and headed several international non-governmental organizations focused on advancing the status of women in Iran and later around the world. Mahnaz Afshar ( fa, مهناز افشار; born June 10, 1977) is an Iranian actress. She gained wide recognition in the record-breaking film ''Cease Fire'' (2006). She has received various accolades, including a Crystal Cymorgh, two Hafez Awards and an Iran's Film Critics and Writers Association Award. Life and career Afshar was born in Tehran, Iran. Mahnaz Fattahi ( Persian: مهناز فتاحی) is an Iranian (Kermanshahi) Kurdish author, scholar and researcher—of oral history—who was born in Hamedan in 1968, and passed her childhood during Iran-Iraq war. Mahnaz Samadi ( fa, مهناز صمدی; born 1965) is a member of the People's Mujahedin of Iran (MEK). Activities Iran and Iraq Samadi joined the MEK in 1980 and was an active fighter for them during the 1980s. In 1982, she was accused of leading a terrorist attack against the Iranian government on behalf of the organization. Warren Creates, her lawyer in a 2000 case said she had been penalized for "bombings that were against legitimate targets". Samadi was imprisoned in Evin Prison for four years, and was released in 1986, before escaping from Iran. She became a commander of the military wing of the MEK based in Iraq, called the "National Liberation Army of Iran", and responsible for training female fighters at Camp Ashraf.
