Al Ahly SC (handball)
Al Ahly Handball Club ( ar, النادي الاهلي لكرة اليد) is one of Al Ahly SC, Al Ahly Sporting Club's sections that represent the club in Egypt as well as in international handball competitions. Al Ahly's Handball team was founded in 1959. The Al Ahly handball team has participated in the Egyptian Handball League since the beginning in 1960s until the present. The Championship was played under the name of the Republic League. The first championship win for the Al Ahly team in the Egyptian Handball League was in 1968 and 1969. The Al Ahly Handball Club has won the most titles in the league, 23 of which were gold medals. The Egyptian national handball team is the national handball team of Egypt and is controlled by the Egyptian Handball Federation. Egypt is one of the finest handball teams from Africa along with Tunisia and Algeria. Egypt has had two golden generations, one from 1991-2001 and a present one starting from 2019. The first generation was the first non-European team to reach the semifinals in the World Championships. The Mediterranean Games is a multi-sport event organised by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM). It is held every four years among athletes from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea in Africa, Asia and Europe. The 2013 Mediterranean Games ( tr, 2013 Akdeniz Oyunları), officially known as the XVII Mediterranean Games ( tr, XVII Akdeniz Oyunları) and commonly known as Mersin 2013, was an international multi-sport event held from 20 to 30 June 2013 in Mersin, Turkey. Mersin was announced as the host city at the General Assembly of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM) on 23 February 2011. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team.
