Yom Tov Tzahalon
Yom Tov ben Moshe Tzahalon, ( he, ื™ื•ื ื˜ื•ื‘ ื‘ืŸ ืžืฉื” ืฆื”ืœื•ืŸ), also known as the Maharitz, ( 1559 โ€“ 1638, Safed, Eyalet of Sidon), was a student of Moses di Trani and Moshe Alshich, and published a collection of responsa. Aged twenty-five, Tzahalon was requested by Rabbi Samuel Yafeh of Constantinople to decide a difficult and complicated problem which had been referred to himself and he corresponded with most of the authorities of his time, one of his chief antagonists being Moses Galante (the Elder). Although a Sephardi, Tzahalon rendered a decision in favour of an Ashkenazic congregation in a controversy which arose between the Sephardim and Ashkenazim at Jerusalem, and in his love of truth he did not spare even his teacher, Joseph Caro, declaring that the ''Shulchan Aruch'' was written for children and laymen. Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky (first Dushinsky Rebbe)
Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky (1867 โ€“ 17 October 1948), also known as the Maharitz, was the first Rebbe of Dushinsky and Chief Rabbi (''Gavad'') of the Edah HaChareidis of Jerusalem. Early life Dushinsky was born in Paks, Hungary, to Yisroel and Sara Elka Dushinsky. He was a disciple of the author of ''Shevet Sofer'', one of the grandchildren of the Chassam Sofer. After his marriage to Sheindel, the daughter of Rabbi Mordechai Winkler, author of ''Levushei Mordechai'', Dushinsky became the Chief Rabbi in Galanta, Slovakia. In an epidemic during World War I, his wife died, leaving no children. He subsequently remarried Esther Neuhaus, daughter of Rabbi Yoel Tzvi Neuhaus. He relocated to the town of Chust to assume the position of Chief Rabbi. In 1921, his only child, Yisroel Moshe, was born.
