Mahamood Lebbe Alim Hizbullah
Mahamood Lebbe Alim Mohamed Hizbullah (born 2 February 1963) is a Sri Lankan politician and state minister. He was a minor presidential candidate in the 2019 Sri Lankan presidential election, 2019 presidential elections. Early life Hizbullah was born on 2 February 1963. He has a General Arts Qualification (GAQ) from the University of Peradeniya. He has a Master of Arts, M.A. degree from the University of Madras. He is the 5th of 7 children. Career Hizbullah was a member of Kattankudy Divisional Council. He was elected to the North Eastern Provincial Council at the 1988 North Eastern Provincial Council election, 1988 provincial council election. The National Unity Alliance ( ta, தேசிய ஐக்கியக் கூட்டமைப்பு) is a political alliance in Sri Lanka. Founded in 1999, the alliance ceased to exist in 2010 when its remaining members joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Abdul Rauff Hibbathul Hakeem (born 13 April 1960) is a Sri Lankan politician and current member of parliament, representing the Kandy electorate since 2010. Hakeem is the leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), and a member of the United National Front for Good Governance. Early life and education Hakeem was born 13 April 1960 in Nawalapitiya in the Kandy District. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (commonly abbreviated as NWSDB) is the National Organization responsible for the provision of safe drinking water and facilitating the provision of sanitation to the people in Sri Lanka. The organization had its beginning as a sub department under the Public Works Department for water supply and drainage. In 1965, it became a division under the Ministry of Local Government. 2000 Sri Lankan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 10 October 2000. The People's Alliance (PA) government Kumaratunga had led for six years was facing increasing criticism on two fronts: a series of military defeats at the hands of the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in the country's civil war, and the faltering performance of the economy. The elections were marred by violence. Seventy people were killed during the campaign, including six on election day itself. Both the United National Party, UNP and SLMC parties accused the PA of election fraud and intimidation. As was the case for most elections since 1983, few ballots were cast in LTTE-held parts of the country. Results The PA remained in office but had problems to form a majority. The resulting deadlock led to the 2001 election. 1994 Sri Lankan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 16 August 1994. They marked the decisive end of seventeen years of United National Party rule and a revival of Sri Lankan democracy. Background Democracy in Sri Lanka had seemed doomed as the presidencies of J.R. Jayewardene and Ranasinghe Premadasa arbitrarily banned opposition parties, severely muzzled the media, and routinely used death squads, torture, and kidnappings in the two civil conflicts against the LTTE and JVP. The UNP had simply cancelled the 1983 parliamentary elections; its control of the media led it to victory in the 1988 and 1989 elections.
