Mahalia Belo is an English film and television director. Biography Belo graduated from the National Film and Television School in 2012. Her graduation film, ''Volume'' won a BIFA award in the Best British Short Film category and was shown at the Sundance Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival. She won a 2017 British Academy Television Craft Award in the best breakthrough talent category for her work directing the television drama ''Ellen''. She directed psychological thriller ''Requiem'' and the TV adaption of Andrea Levy's novel about the last days of slavery in Jamaica, ''The Long Song'', both of which were broadcast in 2018. National Film And Television School
The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is a film, television and games school established in 1971 and based at Beaconsfield Studios in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England. It is featured in the 2021 ranking by ''The Hollywood Reporter'' of the top 15 International film schools. Its community of students makes around a hundred and fifty films a year on courses that are over 90% practical and unlike courses offered at other UK film schools. Andrea Levy (7 March 1956 – 14 February 2019) was an English author best known for the novels '' Small Island'' (2004) and ''The Long Song'' (2010). She was born in London to Jamaican parents, and her work explores topics related to British Jamaicans and how they negotiate racial, cultural and national identities. Early life Levy was of primarily Afro-Jamaican descent. She had a Jewish paternal grandfather and a Scots maternal great-grandfather. She said in a 2004 article: "Jews went to Jamaica in the 1600s.
