Magtymguly Avenue ( tk, Magtymguly şaýoly, russian: Проспект Махтумкули), transliterated from Russian as Makhtumkuli, is an avenue in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is considered to be the longest and most prominent avenue in the capital Origins and Description When it was originally created in the early 1880s, Magtymguly Avenue, then named Merv Prospect (russian: Мервский проспект), ran through the entire city and then merged with the road leading to Merv. It was subsequently renamed Kuropatkin Prospect (russian: Куропаткинский проспект) in honor of General Aleksey Kuropatkin. Ashgabat or Asgabat ( tk, Aşgabat, ; fa, عشق‌آباد, translit='Ešqābād, formerly named Poltoratsk ( rus, Полтора́цк, p=pəltɐˈratsk) between 1919 and 1927), is the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan. It lies between the Karakum Desert and the Kopetdag mountain range in Central Asia, near the Iran-Turkmenistan border. The city was founded in 1881 on the basis of an Ahal Teke tribal village, and made the capital of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924. Independence Square, Ashgabat
Independence Square () is a square in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The identification number of the square is 2000. Development By June 2009, the square was renovated, with new fountains, original lamps and benches, being built over the course of six months. In October 2014, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov acquainted with the progress of landscaping on the square, taking a bike ride through the central part of the square. In September 2021, in honor of the 30th anniversary of Turkmen independence, the largest flat screen tv Central Asia was placed on the government tribune. Saparmurat Turkmenbashi the Great Avenue ( tk, Beýik Saparmyrat Türkmenbaşy şaýoly) is the main avenue and one of the largest arteries of Ashgabat. Characteristics Saparmurat Turkmenbashi the Great Avenue starts from the Ashgabat railway station square and going from north to south through the city. On the south side it ends at the Kopet Dag, which goes into Howdan highway. Bitarap Turkmenistan Avenue ( tk, Bitarap Türkmenistan şaýoly, lit=Neutral Turkmenistan Avenue) is the main avenue and one of the largest roads of Ashgabat. Bitarap Turkmenistan is historically called Podvoiskogo Street. In 2011, it was reconstructed by the Turkish company Polimeks. Prospect originates from the Neutrality Monument. White marble houses, modern supermarkets, office buildings, and infrastructure were built along the avenue. Prospect intersects Chandybil highway, Archabil highway and 10 ýyl Aabadnçylyk street. Archabil Avenue ( tk, Arçabil şaýoly) is a motorway in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The eight-lane motorway has a length of 25.5 kilometres, and contains a dividing strip of more than 30 metres width. History and architecture Archabil Avenue was built in 2004 by the Turkish company GAP Insaat. The avenue hosts the majority of Turkmenistan's ministry and departmental offices. ''Alabay Statue'' ( tk, Alabaý heýkeli) is a gilded statue that stands on Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The 49 feet (15 m) tall gilded statue (the statue itself is 29 feet, the pedestal is 20 feet), depicts a Alabay dog. Inspiration Alley
Inspiration Park ( tk, Ylham seýilgähi) is a public park in downtown Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The park opened in 2010. It is located between two major thoroughfares in Ashgabat, Görogly and Magtymguly, and covers an area of 57,000 m2. Against the backdrop of mature trees along an artificial waterfall, there are new seedlings planted, flower beds and flower pots. Two cafés serve the park. Monuments The paths in the park are lined with sculptures depicting prominent Turkmen and Muslim poets, thinkers and scholars of antiquity and modernity. The Ashgabat cinema ( tk, Aşgabat kinoteatry) is a movie theater in Ashgabat. The theater is on Magtymguly Avenue near the Kopetdag Stadium. Opened on June 29, 2011, it is the first 3D cinema in Turkmenistan. History The initiator of the first 3D-cinema was the President of Turkmenistan. A tender for the construction of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan announced in January 2008. In September it was announced that the Turkish construction company "Ichkale", commissioned by the state concern "Turkmennebitgazgurlushik" build in the center of Ashgabat new modern cinema.
