Magpies Netball
The Collingwood Magpies are an Australian netball team in Melbourne that competes in the premier domestic league, Suncorp Super Netball. The team was founded in 2016, during the disbanding of the ANZ Championship. The Magpies are owned by the professional Australian Football League entity, the Collingwood Football Club. Home games are usually played at John Cain Arena. History Following the dissolution of the trans-Tasman ANZ Championship competition in 2016, Netball Australia announced the creation of a new national Netball league, which would feature the five original Australian teams and three additional teams. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. 2017 Suncorp Super Netball Season
The 2017 Suncorp Super Netball season was the inaugural season of the premier netball league in Australia, following the disbanding of the ANZ Championship in 2016. The regular season began on 18 February 2017 and concluded with the Grand Final on 17 June 2017. Expansion team Sunshine Coast Lightning won the Grand Final, comfortably defeating Giants Netball at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Overview The season was played over 14 rounds, allowing every team to play each other twice, once at home and once away. Bendigo Stadium
Bendigo Stadium is an Australian sports and entertainment centre in Bendigo, Victoria. The stadium is home to the Bendigo Braves (NBL1) and Bendigo Spirit (WNBL). It hosted basketball matches during the 2006 Commonwealth Games and will host netball during the 2026 Commonwealth Games. It is the second-largest venue and show court for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam professional tennis tournament held each calendar year. Kelsey Browne
Kelsey Browne (born 17 January 1992) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the Collingwood Magpies. Career Browne began her professional netball career as a replacement player for the Melbourne Vixens in the 2015 ANZ Championship season. She played for the Victorian-based club for two seasons before having a breakout year in 2017 at the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the new Super Netball league, where she developed a reputation as one of the most ruthless wing-attack players in the competition. Sharni Norder (née Layton; born 6 January 1988) is a retired Australian sportsperson, known for her top level careers in netball and Australian rules football. Over fifteen years Norder played for six netball clubs in multiple elite competitions, and was a dual premiership player for the Adelaide Thunderbirds. She earned 46 caps for the Australia national netball team, won two gold medals at the Netball World Cup and one gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, and was captain of the team in 2017. After ending her professional netball career at the Collingwood Magpies in 2018, Norder transitioned to Australian rules football and played for Collingwood's AFL Women's team. The 2018 Suncorp Super Netball season was the second season of the premier Netball in Australia, netball league in Australia. The season began on 28 April and concluded with the Grand Final on 26 August 2018.
