Magnificent Sinner
''Magnificent Sinner'' (original French title: ''Katia'') is a 1959 French film by director Robert Siodmak about the romance between Tsar Alexander II of Russia and the then-schoolgirl Catherine Dolgorukov, who later became his mistress and finally his morganatic wife. It stars Romy Schneider as Katia, a schoolgirl who becomes the Tsar's mistress and Curd Jürgens as Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The film, originally released as ''Katia'', was a remake of a 1938 French film of the same name, which starred Danielle Darrieux. Plot Produced in France, ''Magnificent Sinner'' stars Curd Jürgens as Tsar Alexander II, with Romy Schneider as the schoolgirl Katia who first becomes his mistress, before being elevated to the rank of princess. Robert Siodmak
Robert Siodmak (; 8 August 1900 – 10 March 1973) was a German film director who also worked in the United States. He is best remembered as a thriller specialist and for a series of films noirs he made in the 1940s, such as ''The Killers'' (1946). Early life Siodmak was born in Dresden, Germany, the son of Rosa Philippine (née Blum) and Ignatz Siodmak and the brother of Curt, Werner and Roland. His parents were both from Jewish families in Leipzig (the myth of his American birth in Memphis, Tennessee was necessary for him to obtain a visa in Paris during World War II). He worked as a stage director and a banker before becoming editor and scenarist for Curtis Bernhardt in 1925 (Bernhardt directed a film of Siodmak's story ''Conflict'' in 1945). Margo Lion (cabaret Singer)
Marguerite Hélène Barbe Elisabeth Constantine Lion (28 February 1899 – 24 February 1989), known as Margo Lion, was a Jewish singer and actress. She was born in Constantinople during Ottoman rule. She moved to Berlin after World War I with her father to join the school of Russian ballet. When the Nazi Party rose to power in 1933 she moved to France to flee antisemitic persecution. She was a successful chanteuse, parodist, cabaret singer, and actress, best known for her role as Pirate Jenny in director G. W. Bernard Dhéran
Bernard Yves Raoul Dhéran (17 June 1926 – 27 January 2013) was a French actor, who was active in film, television and theatre in a career spanning over six decades. Dhéran was well remembered in French cinema's as the French dub of David Niven, Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Plummer, Ian McKellen and Leslie Nielsen. He was also recognized in dubbing as the voice of Count Dooku in the animated series '' Star Wars: The Clone Wars'', he also dubbed Christopher Lee's performance in '' Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones'' and '' Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith''. Michel Bouquet (6 November 1925 – 13 April 2022) was a French stage and film actor. He appeared in more than 100 films from 1947 to 2020. He won the Best Actor European Film Award for '' Toto the Hero'' in 1991 and two Best Actor Césars for ''How I Killed My Father'' (2001) and ''The Last Mitterrand'' (2005).
