Magilligan GAC
Saint Aidan's GAC Magilligan ( ga, CLG Naomh Aodhán Ard Mhic Giollagain) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Magilligan, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The club is a member of Derry GAA and currently caters for Gaelic football. Magilligan has won the Derry Junior Football Championship twice. Underage teams up to U-12's play in North Derry GAA league and championships, from U-14 upwards teams compete in All-Derry competitions. Magilligan
Magilligan () is a peninsula that lies in the northwest of County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, at the entrance to Lough Foyle, within Causeway Coast and Glens district. It is an extensive coastal site, part British army firing range, part nature reserve and is home to the HM Prison Magilligan. The settlement of Magilligan Point on the lough is noted for its ferry crossing to Greencastle, County Donegal. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. The ''Derry Journal'' is a newspaper based in Derry, Northern Ireland, serving Derry as well as County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. It is operated by a Johnston Press holding company entitled Derry Journal Newspapers. The paper is published on Tuesday and Friday and is a sister paper of the '' Sunday Journal'', the only local newspaper published in Ireland on a Sunday. John Eddie Mullan
John Eddie Mullan (27 April 1923 – 14 December 2008) was a Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1940s and 1950s. He was part of the first Derry side to win the National Football League and also won two Dr McKenna Cups and three Dr Lagan Cups with the county. For most of his career he played club football for St Canice's Dungiven and won two Derry Championships with the club. Mullan has been described as "one of Derry's greatest forwards" and one of Derry's best ever players. Personal life Mullan was born in the townland of Galvin, between Dungiven and Drumsurn on 27 April 1923. In the latter half of his life he was a publican in Portrush. He died peacefully on 14 December 2008 at his home in Portrush, County Antrim at the age of 85. Dungiven GAC
St Canice's GAC Dungiven ( ga, Cumann Chainnigh Naofa Dún Geimhin) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is part of Derry GAA. It currently caters for Gaelic football and Ladies' Gaelic football. The hurling club in the town is Kevin Lynch's. The club's biggest success was when they won the 1997 Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. They have also won the Derry Senior Football Championship on seven occasions, and the Derry GAA Senior Hurling Championship nine times. Dungiven GAC was a combined football and hurling club until 1981. Ulster Senior Football Championship
The Ulster Senior Football Championship is an inter-county competition for Gaelic football teams in the province of Ulster. It is organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and begins in early May. The final is usually played on the third Sunday in July. All nine Ulster counties participate. It is regarded as hardest to win of the four provincial football championships. At a referee conference in January 2015, David Coldrick said about officiating in the competition: "Ulster makes or breaks you. It can be a graveyard. The games are different. There is an extra dimension and intensity, and you must be at your best. If you aren't prepared physically and mentally, the chances are you will be caught out.
