Maggy Baum
Maggy Baum (born in Verviers, 22nd of August, 1931) was a Belgian designer, knitwear- and textiles specialist, whose knitwear collection was sold internationally in the 70s and 80s, leading her to be recognized as a pioneer in Belgian fashion. She also taught at La Cambre, the fashion school in Brussels, and published a textiles encyclopedia. Biography and career Baum was born in Verviers, a municipality located in the Belgian province of Liège known for its historic textile industry until the first half of the 20th century. Baum is retired and lives in Brussels. Design and consulting Baum started her career at the end of the 1950s, when she bought a knitwear production atelier in Brussels. Verviers
Verviers (; wa, Vervî) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. The municipality consists of the following districts: Ensival, Heusy, Lambermont, Petit-Rechain, Stembert, and Verviers. It is also the center of an agglomeration that includes Dison and Pepinster, making it the second biggest in the province and an important regional center, located roughly halfway between Liège and the German border. Olivier Theyskens (; born January 4, 1977 in Brussels, Belgium) is a Belgian fashion designer who has worked with major design houses, including Rochas, Nina Ricci and Theory. Early life Theyskens was born to a Belgian chemical engineer and a French homemaker. Theyskens attended École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in October 1994 to study fashion design. He dropped out in 1997 to start his own label. Career Early beginnings Theyskens submitted pieces from his collection, “Gloomy Trips” to a Belgian group show. Stylist Arianne Phillips saw photographs of his works and dressed Madonna in one of Theyskens’ black satin coatdresses for the 1998 Academy Awards. Woolmark is a wool industry certification mark used on pure wool products that meet quality standards set by The Woolmark Company. It is a trade mark owned by The Woolmark Company, which has since 2007 been a subsidiary of Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI). La Cambre
L'École nationale supérieure des arts visuels de La Cambre (ENSAV), more known as La Cambre, is a renowned visual arts school founded by Henry van de Velde in Brussels in 1926. It was founded as the ''Institut supérieur des Arts décoratifs'' (''Hoger Instituut voor Decoratieve Kunsten''), and became known as "La Cambre" after the Abbey of la Cambre/Ter Kameren in which premises it was established. In 1980, La Cambre was divided into two separate institutions, the ''École nationale supérieure des Arts visuels'' (ENSAV), and the ''Institut supérieur d'Architecture de la Communauté française de Belgique'' (ISACF).
