Maggie and Sam are Walter Lantz characters, who made their first appearance in the cartoon "Crazy Mixed Up Pup", in 1955. Their final appearance was in 1957, in "Fowled Up Party". They were created by Tex Avery. Maggie was voiced by Grace Stafford and Sam by Daws Butler. Sam appeared alone in a handful of Woody Woodpecker cartoons during the 1960s. Daws Butler
Charles Dawson Butler (November 16, 1916May 18, 1988) was an American voice actor. He worked mostly for the Hanna-Barbera animation production company where he originated the voices of many familiar characters, including Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy, Auggie Doggie, Loopy De Loop, Wally Gator, Quick Draw McGraw and Baba Looey, Snooper and Blabber, Hokey Wolf, Elroy Jetson, Peter Potamus, The Funky Phantom and Help!... Grace Stafford
Grace Lantz ( Boyle, November 7, 1903 – March 17, 1992), also known by her stage name Grace Stafford, was an American actress and the wife of animation producer Walter Lantz. Stafford is best known for providing the voice of Woody Woodpecker, a creation of Lantz's, from 1950 to 1992. Career Stafford appeared in feature live-action films from 1935's '' Dr. Socrates'' to 1975's '' Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze''. Crazy Mixed Up Pup
''Crazy Mixed Up Pup'' is a 1955 cartoon directed by Tex Avery and produced by Walter Lantz. It was nominated for an Academy Award, but lost to the Mr. Magoo short ''When Magoo Flew''. Plot A man named Samuel "Sam" and his dog Rover are both flattened by a car whilst crossing the street. An ambulance then arrives and the medic accidentally gives them their opposite plasmas. After recovering, Sam begins to take on more doglike attributes, while Rover takes on more human attributes. Both cause strife in their home, which annoys Sam's wife, Margaret "Maggie" and her pet poodle, Fifi. Maggie finally gets fed up and leaves, taking Fifi with her. Walter Lantz (April 27, 1899 – March 22, 1994) was an American cartoonist, animator, producer and director best known for founding Walter Lantz Productions and creating Woody Woodpecker. Woody Woodpecker is an animated character that appeared in theatrical short films produced by the Walter Lantz Studio and distributed by Universal Studios between 1940 and 1972. Woody, an anthropomorphic woodpecker, was created in 1940 by Lantz and storyboard artist Ben "Bugs" Hardaway, who had previously laid the groundwork for two other screwball characters, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, at the Warner Bros. cartoon studio in the late 1930s. Walter Lantz Productions was an American animation studio. It was in operation from 1928 to 1972 and was the principal supplier of animation for Universal Studios. The studio was originally formed as Universal Cartoon Studios on the initiative of Universal movie mogul Carl Laemmle, who was tired of the continuous company politics he was dealing with concerning contracting cartoons outside animation studios. Walter Lantz, who was Laemmle's part-time chauffeur and a veteran of the John R. Bray Studios with considerable experience in all elements of animation production, was selected to run the department. In 1935, the studio was severed from Universal and became Walter Lantz Studio under Lantz's direct control, and in 1939, renamed to Walter Lantz Productions.
