Maggie Vessey
Maggie Vessey (born December 23, 1981) is an American athlete who competes in middle distance track events. Vessey represented the United States at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics and 2011 World Championships in Athletics in the 800 m. Early life and education Vessey grew up in Soquel, California and attended Monte Vista High School and Soquel High School. Later, she attended California Polytechnic State University. Professional athletics career While competing for Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, Vessey was the Big West Conference 800 m champion twice. She finished second in the 800 m at the 2005 NCAA championships. At the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, Vessey finished 5th in the 800 m, with a time of 2:02.01. In June 2009, Vessey was a surprise winner at the Prefontaine Classic, in 2:00.18. 800 M
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. IAAF World Challenge Meetings
The IAAF World Challenge was an annual, global circuit of one-day track and field competitions organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). First held in 2010, it replaced the IAAF Grand Prix and IAAF Super Grand Prix series to form the second tier of international one-day meetings, after the IAAF Diamond League. Unlike the Diamond League, the IAAF World Challenge comprised stand-alone meetings, and no overall winners are crowned. Hanžeković Memorial
Hanžeković Memorial ( hr, Hanžekovićev memorijal) is an athletics event at the Sportski Park Mladost athletic stadium in Zagreb, Croatia as part of the IAAF World Challenge Meetings. It was first organized in 1951. ''Hanžek'' (which is the popular name of meeting) was first held in 1951 as a local level meeting. Seven years later, in 1958, it became an international competition. From 1999 to 2009 the IAAF classified the Hanžeković Memorial among IAAF Grand Prix meetings and it gained IAAF World Challenge meeting status upon the inauguration of that series in 2010. The meeting got its name in memory of renowned Zagreb runner Boris Hanžeković. Yekaterina Kostetskaya
Yekaterina Aleksandrovna Kostetskaya (russian: Екатерина Александровна Костецкая; born December 31, 1986) is a Russian track athlete. She came fifth in the 800 m final at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, but was later disqualified for doping. Kostetskaya met Australian pole vaulter Steve Hooker at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and married him in 2012. They have three sons and live in Melbourne, Australia. Doping IAAF announced 28 July 2014, that Kostetskaya was sanctioned for doping after her biological passport had showed abnormalities. The two-year ban ended 20 January 2015. Masters Athletics
Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events.
