Magdeburger FFC
Magdeburger FFC is a women's football club from Magdeburg. The club was founded in 1997 and won promotion to the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga in 2009. History The club's roots lie with local sports club ''SG Handwerk Magdeburg''. In the only official East German championship, the 1990-91 season, the team finished last. In 1991 the football department joined SV Fortuna Magdeburg, but in the next few years the team's performance was inconsistent. After a few mid-table results the team battled against relegation at the end of the 1990s. In 1997 the football department left the club again and created a new club, ''FSV Fortuna Magdeburg/Wolmirstedt''. To further emphasize their independence from Fortuna Magdeburg, the club changed its name to Magdeburger FFC on 1 July 2003. One year later, Magdeburg narrowly missed out on qualifying for the newly created 2nd Bundesliga, finishing 6th in the Regionalliga. Heinrich Germer Stadium
The Heinrich Germer Stadium is a stadium in the Magdeburg quarter of Sudenburg that is mostly used for hosting association football matches. It was built in 1920 and named ''Stadion am Königsweg''. After World War II, the stadium was renovated from 1951 to 1952 and renamed ''Heinrich-Germer-Stadion'', after a local politician. The overall form is that of an oval, with its main stand dominated by the announcer's tower. The stadium currently offers room for 4,990 spectators, with a roof covering about 15 seats and standing room for about 100 spectators. Additionally, there is a 400 meter track surrounding the playing field. Beginning in the years after the war, the predecessor sides of 1. FC Magdeburg used the stadium — BSG Stahl Magdeburg, Motor Mitte Magdeburg and SC Aufbau Magdeburg. Regionalliga (women)
The Frauen-Regionalliga is the third-tier of German women's association football. The Frauen-Regionalliga is made up of five separate leagues. Until 2017, the champion of each league was promoted to the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga for the next season, so were the winners of two promotion groups in 2018. Since 2019, the three winners of promotion play-offs qualify for next season's 2. Bundesliga. Mode In all divisions a season consists of two rounds. A club meets every other club one time in each round, once at home and once away. The number of games thus depends on the number of teams in the division, ranging from ten in the south to fourteen in the west. The season typically starts in August or September, with the first round finishing in December. The second round then starts in February and ends in May or June.
