Windham, Connecticut
Windham is a town in Windham County, Connecticut, United States. It contains the former city of Willimantic as well as the boroughs of Windham Center, North Windham, and South Windham. Willimantic, an incorporated city since 1893, was consolidated with the town in 1983. The population was 24,428 at the 2020 census. History Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the region was occupied by Algonquian peoples, including the Pequot, Mohegan, Narragansett, and Nipmuck. After the conclusion of the Pequot War in 1638, the Pequots ceased to exist as a tribe; after King Philip's War ended in 1678, the Narragansett and Nipmuck did as well, leaving the Mohegans the only native power in the region. The settlement of Windham was left to settlers by Joshua Uncas, son of Uncas, in a will dated 1675. Settlers moved in, and held their first town meeting on May 18, 1691. Quinebaug Valley Community College
Quinebaug Valley Community College (QVCC) is a public community college in Danielson, Connecticut. History Opened in September 1971, the college has an open admissions policy with 17 programs leading to Associate degrees and 24 certificate programs ranging from Allied Health to Technology Studies. The main campus is at 742 Upper Maple Street in Danielson. In 1986, the Willimantic Center opened to offer residents in the southwestern corner of QVCC's service region access to the educational offerings of QVCC. The Willimantic Center closed at the Main Street location in 2018. For a short time, the College hosted courses in the evening at Windham Technical High School, Willimantic, CT. Killingly High School
Killingly High School is a public high school in Killingly, Connecticut. The school reported 792 students and 65 FTE classroom teachers for the 2014–2015 school year. Killingly High is the only public high school in the Killingly School District, which is on the eastern edge of Windham County. It also serves the nearby town of Brooklyn. For 2015, the community voted to make the school the sole polling place in Killingly. The Secretary of State informed the town registrar's office that this was a misinterpretation of statute, and in 2016, a second polling place was opened at the school's old location. Sports at the school are done as part of the Eastern Connecticut Conference. Killingly High was included in a segment of the reality TV series '' The Principal's Office'' in 2009.
