Madison Township is one of fourteen townships in Clinton County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,079 and it contained 846 housing units. The township was named after President James Madison. History The first white settlers in the land that would become Madison Township were Win Winship, Jacob Stettler, Charles Poulston and James Taylor, all of whom arrived in 1829. The first post office was at Winship's Mills with E. Winship as the first postmaster. Geography According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of , all land. Prior to being settled, the land was almost completely covered in dense forest, principally oak, walnut, poplar, sugar maple, beech, ash, hickory, elm, and various other hardwood species. Hamilton, Clinton County, Indiana
Hamilton is an unincorporated community in Madison Township, Clinton County, Indiana. The town is named for Alexander Hamilton. History The western portion of the land on which Hamilton stands was settled by Jacob Stetler in late 1829 or 1830, and the eastern part by John Gallinger in 1831, the two being separated by what is now Hamilton Road (near its intersection with what would become State Road 38). According to a 1913 history of Clinton County, "tradition has it that these two men met under the shade of a tree, near where the two highways cross, on a Sunday and agreed to join in layout out the town plat, which agreement was thereafter carried to execution..." The plat, surveyed March 21, 1839 and recorded April 19, 1839, included 36 lots each on the east and west sides of the road; additional lots were added June 30, 1842. Washington Township is one of fourteen Township (United States), townships in Clinton County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,098 and it contained 465 housing units. The township was named for President George Washington. History Before Clinton County existed, all of its territory, along with a small piece of what's now northern Boone County, Indiana, Boone County, was from 1828 to 1830 part of Tippecanoe County, Indiana, Tippecanoe County and known as Washington Township. When Clinton County was founded, this name was retained for the township then most settled. Mulberry is a town in Madison Township, Clinton County, Indiana, Madison Township, Clinton County, Indiana, Clinton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,231 at the 2020 census. The town was named for a mulberry tree which grew at the point where it was founded. History The plat for the town of Mulberry was laid out by W. S. Perrin on October 1, 1858. In the dedication of the plat the town is mistakenly named Glicksburg, an error made by a surveyor. The town's first home was that of Thomas Waldron, who also operated the first store and was Mulberry's first postmaster.
