Madinat Ash Shamal
Madinat ash Shamal ( ar, الشمال) is the capital city of the municipality of Al Shamal in Qatar. Located more than north of Qatar's capital Doha, the city was delimited in 1988 and shares its boundaries with Ar Ru'ays to the east and Abu Dhalouf to the west. Etymology The city's name "Madinat ash Shamal" translates to "city of the north". Geography Madinat ash Shamal is located at a distance of over 100 km of the capital Doha, 27 km away from Zubarah, 24 km away from Fuwayrit, 76 km away from Al Khor, and 122 km away from Al Wakrah. History Throughout most of the 20th century, Abu Dhalouf and Ar Ru'ays were the largest villages on the northern coast. In the early 1970s, the Qatari government enacted a plan to establish Madinat ash Shamal between these two villages to serve as an administrative center for the north, in line with its policy of decentralization from the capital of Doha. Qatar National Vision 2030 ( ar, رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030; abbreviated as QNV 2030) is a development plan launched in October 2008 by the General Secretariat for Development Planning in the Qatar, State of Qatar. Ain Mohammed
Ain Mohammed ( ar, عين محمد) is an abandoned village in Qatar, located in the municipality of Ash Shamal. It is located about 1.5 km southwest of the abandoned village of Freiha. To the north is a series of small hills known as Al Jebailat. Etymology Named after a local well, the first constituent of the village's name, "ain", refers to a natural source of water in Arabic. "Mohammed" was the name of the individual who built the well which supplied water to the village. History In 1908, J.G. Lorimer recorded Ain Mohammed in his ''Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf'', giving its location as "2 miles north-east of Zubarah". Qatari Municipal Elections, 2015
Municipal elections in Qatar were held for the fifth time on 13 May 2015. Five women contested the polls as candidates. Two women were elected to the Central Municipal Council (CMC) after winning their constituencies, heralding the first time two women have occupied seats in the council. This round of elections witnessed the merging of a number of depopulated constituencies and the addition of several new constituencies. Early indications suggested that the voter turnout would be low. However, the voter turnout in various constituencies ranged from 51% to 87%, with an overall voter turnout of 70%. This was a marked increase from the 43% voter turnout in the 2011 elections. The total number of voters was 21,735. There were 109 candidates. Central Municipal Council
The first municipal council in Qatar was formed in the early 1950s and it was reorganized in 1956. Doha Municipality, Doha municipality came into being in May 1963. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs was established in 1972 as a government body responsible for supervising the functions of municipalities. Decree No 4 for 1963 organized, for the first time, the election and appointment of the members of the municipal council. Law No 11 for 1963 followed. It stipulated that the municipal council is formed by a decree and that the appointment of the members is based on the nomination of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture. The first joint meeting of municipal councils in the country was held in 1983.
