Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos ( ar, مدينة السلطان قابوس) is a suburb of Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. The Name "Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos" is an Arabic phrase that means "City of Sultan Qaboos." Sultan Qaboos was the monarch of the Sultanate of Oman, until Jan 2020. Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos (or Madinat Qaboos and MQ for short) is a predominantly upscale residential area located in the center of Muscat Governorate. Nearby suburbs include Al-Khuwair, Shati Al-Qurm and Qurum. It is situated 6 kilometer from the sea and is well connected to the rest of the city by the arterial highway, Sultan Qaboos Street that separates the suburb from Shatti Al Qurum and the sea. Subdivisions Of Oman
Oman is divided into eleven governorates (''muhafazah''), and has been since 28 October 2011. Each of the 11 governorates are divided into ''wilayat'' (provinces). Regions and governorates before 2011 Before 28 October 2011, Oman was divided into five regions (''mintaqah'') and four governorates (''muhafazah''). Shatti Al-Qurum (also written Shatti Al-Qurm) is the most expensive residential locality situated on the coast of Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. It is also known as Muscat's Diplomatic District due to many embassies being located there. Qurum
Qurum (; also written Qurm) is an upscale suburb of Muscat in Oman. Its main attractions are the Qurum Natural Park, the Qurum City Centre and the Qurum Beach. Qurm Nature Reserve Qurum is the site of Qurm Nature Reserve, a national nature reserve protecting a coastal wetland surrounding a forest of grey mangroves.
