Conroy Maddox (27 December 1912 – 14 January 2005) was an English surrealist painter, collagist, writer and lecturer; and a key figure in the Birmingham Surrealist movement.Morris, Desmond (2018), ''The Lives of the Surrealists''. He was born in Ledbury, Herefordshire, and discovered surrealism in 1935, spending the rest of his life exploring its potential through his paintings, collages, photographs, objects and texts. Gene Maddox
Orville Gene Maddox (August 23, 1938 – June 2, 2015) was an American politician and lawyer. Born in Chillicothe, Illinois, Maddox graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1956. He then received his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in 1960 and his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1962. Maddox then moved to Des Moines, Iowa to practice law. In 1975, Maddox served on the Clive, Iowa City Council and then served as mayor of Clive, Iowa, from 1977 until 1992. Maddox was a Republican. From 1993 to 2003, Maddox served in the Iowa Senate and then served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Garry Lee Maddox (born September 1, 1949) is an American former professional baseball player and business entrepreneur. He played in Major League Baseball as a center fielder from to . Maddox began his career with the San Francisco Giants but, rose to prominence with the Philadelphia Phillies where his impressive defensive play earned him eight consecutive Gold Glove Awards and, where he was a member of the 1980 World Series winning team. In 1986, Maddox was named the recipient of the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award for his work on behalf of local charities. After his athletic career, he went on to become a successful businessman in Philadelphia and continued with his local charity work. Everette Maddox
Everette "Rhett" Maddox (1944–1989) was an American poet who in 1979 co-founded (with Robert Stock and sculptor Franz Heldner) the longest-running poetry-reading series in the South at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. Biography Maddox was born near Prattville, Alabama. He studied at the University of Alabama, where he did his doctoral work but did not graduate. He moved to New Orleans and taught at Xavier University beginning in 1975, before losing that position and, later, becoming homeless. In 1975 he became an associate editor for Louis Gallo's ''Burataria Review'', and then started organizing and MCing at the Maple Leaf Bar. He died of esophageal cancer in 1989. His work was published in ''The New Yorker'' and ''The Paris Review''. He published two books of poetry, and another was published posthumously. Etta Haynie Maddox
Henrietta Haynie Maddox (January 6, 1860 – February 19, 1933) was a vocalist, lawyer and suffragist. Maddox became the first woman in Maryland licensed to practice law in 1902. She fought for the rights of women to take the bar exam and practice law in the state of Maryland. She was a successful vocalist who studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Music before starting a second career as an attorney. She was the co-founder of the Maryland Woman Suffrage Association in 1894 and campaigned for equal pay for equal work. Ernest Edmund Maddox (1863 – 4 November 1933) was a British surgeon and ophthalmologist. He was a specialist in abnormal binocular vision and phorias (heterophoria in particular). He made advances in optical treatments and invented several devices to better investigate eye conditions, including Maddox rod, double prism Maddox, red glass Maddox, Maddox cross and Maddox wing.
