Mad World (film)
''Mad World'' (Cantonese: 一念無明) is a 2016 Hong Kong drama film directed by Wong Chun and starring Shawn Yue, Eric Tsang, Elaine Jin and Charmaine Fong. It is Wong's directorial debut after winning the First Feature Film Initiative. It was selected as the Hong Kong entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Premise Tung, a former financial analyst who is struggling with bipolar disorder, is placed in the custody of his truck-driver father after being dismissed from a mental health institution. Wong Chun (director)
Wong Chun () is a Hong Kong director and screenwriter. His feature film debut ''Mad World'' (2016) was nominated for eights awards at the 36th Hong Kong Film Awards. For the film, Wong won Best New Director at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards and 36th Hong Kong Film Awards. Early life Wong studied at City University of Hong Kong. He was inspired to pursue cinema after taking a class by director Patrick Tam. He graduated from the university's School of Creative Media in 2011 with a major in film. Career After graduation, he entered his short film "6th March" into the 2011 Fresh Wave Short Film Competition, where he won the "Best Script" award. The film was subsequently nominated for Best Short Film award at the 49th Golden Horse Awards in 2012. Cage Homes
A bedspace apartment (), also called cage home (), coffin cubicle, or coffin home, is a type of residence that is only large enough for one bunk bed surrounded by a metal cage. This type of residence originated in Hong Kong, and primarily exists in older urban districts such as Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok, To Kwa Wan, and Tai Kok Tsui. In 2007, there were approximately 53,200 people living in cage homes in Hong Kong. Generally, the residents are low-income people, including the elderly, drug users, and some low-skilled or unskilled labourers. Reports from the Legislative Council of Hong Kong found that the people who lived in cage homes were those who did not qualify for social welfare, or subsidised rent or electricity. Most of the residents are male. Safety and other living conditions in bedspace apartments homes are often poor. The Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards () are the annual awards given by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society in Hong Kong since 1994. The awards are determined by votes cast in three rounds after a substantial discussion session between the members of the society.
