Macquarie Galleries
Macquarie Galleries was a Sydney private art gallery established in 1925 by John Henry Young and Basil Burdett. It was located at "Strathkyle", 19 Bligh Street Sydney then moved to 40 King Street in 1945. From 1991 to 1993 it was located at 83–85 McLachlan Avenue, Rushcutters Bay. It is currently located at 585 Grosvenor Place, Sydney. There are also associated Macquarie Galleries in Canberra and Perth. Basil Burdett left in 1935 or 1936 to become art critic for the Melbourne Herald. A E J L McDonnell became a partner around 1928. From 1939 to 1956 (59?) Lucy Swanton and Treania Smith 'The bitches of Bligh St' ran the gallery then Treania Smith and Mary Killen. Art Museum

Graham Fransella
Graham Fransella (born 3 June 1950) is an Australian figurative and abstract painter. Life Fransella was born in Harrow, England. He studied at the Bradford School of Art, Yorkshire in the early 1970s, before moving to Melbourne, Australia, in 1975. Work Fransella is known for his abstract figurative paintings and prints. His basic iconography of heads and figures has remained constant throughout his work. His work is represented in private and public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Queensland Art Gallery, Parliament House, Canberra, the Print Council of Australia and Saatchi and Saatchi, London. Desiderius Orban
Desiderius Orban, (; 26 November 18844 October 1986) was a renowned Hungarian painter, printmaker and teacher, who, after emigrating to Australia in 1939 when in his mid-50s, also made an illustrious career in that country. One of The Eight in Budapest, early 20th-century painters who were influential in introducing cubism, expressionism and Fauvism to Hungary, Orbán had been influenced by the paintings of Henri Matisse, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne, seen when he lived in Paris. After building a substantial career, in 1939 after the rise of Nazi Germany and the invasion of Poland, he left Hungary and emigrated to Sydney. He painted and taught for nearly another fifty years, influencing generations of students. John Olsen (Australian Artist)
John Henry Olsen AO OBE (born 21 January 1928) is an Australian artist and winner of the 2005 Archibald Prize. Olsen's primary subject of work is landscape. Early life and training John Olsen was born in Newcastle on 21 January 1928. He moved to Bondi Beach with his family in 1935 and began a lifelong fascination with Sydney Harbour. He attended St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill. After leaving school in 1943, he went to the Dattillo Rubbo Art School in 1947 and from 1950 to 1953 studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, and Auburn School from 1950 to 1956. In 1957, Sydney business man, Robert Shaw and his then wife, Annette, supported by art critic Paul Haefliger sponsored John Olsen to go to Europe and paint. Bernard Ollis
Bernard Ollis (born 1951 in Bath, England) is an Australian artist and painter who lives and works in Sydney and Paris. Ollis is the former director of the National Art School, Sydney. Born in Bath, England, Ollis is a graduate of Cardiff School of Art & Design, Wales and received his Master of Art (Painting) from the Royal College of Art. Ollis arrived in Australia in 1976 and lectured at the University of the Northern Territory, where he became head of his department, and La Trobe University, Victoria where he became Head of Fine Art. In 1996, Ollis was appointed Head of Painting at the National Art School, Sydney. He became Director there in late 1997, a position he held for 10 years. Justin O'Brien
Justin O'Brien (2 August 1917 – 25 January 1996) was an Australian artist. He won the inaugural Blake Prize in 1951. Collections O'Brien's works are held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the University of Sydney, and the University of Southern Queensland. Hilda Rix Nicholas
Hilda Rix Nicholas ( Rix, later Wright, 1 September 1884 – 3 August 1961) was an Australian artist. Born in the Victoria (Australia), Victorian city of Ballarat, she studied under a leading Australian Impressionism, Australian Impressionist, Frederick McCubbin, at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School from 1902 to 1905 and was an early member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors. Following the death of her father in 1907, Rix, her only sibling Elsie and her mother travelled to Europe where she undertook further study, first in London and then Paris. Francis Henry Critchley Hinder (26 June 1906 – 31 December 1992) was an Australian painter, sculptor and art teacher who is also known for his camouflage designs in World War II. Education Born on 26 June 1906 at Summer Hill, Sydney, Hinder was the fourth child of Dr. Henry Vincent Critchley Hinder (1865 - 1913), a prominent surgeon, and Enid Marguerite (née Pockley).
