Mackey Feary
Mackey Feary (August 13, 1955 – February 20, 1999) was an American musician. He was a member of the Hawaiian music pop/rock/folk band Kalapana. Early life Bryant Mackey Feary Jr. was born August 13, 1955, to Bryant Mackey Feary Sr. and Regina Feary. Feary Jr. began playing music at the age seven, and got his first guitar when he was eleven. He attended Kalani High School in Honolulu, and by sixteen was performing live at the Oar House in Hawaii Kai. Kalapana (1973-1976) During the 1970s Hawaiian music experienced a popular resurgence. The new music captured the feeling and social issues of living in Hawaii, but was closer in style to pop-rock groups like the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, than it was to traditional Hawaiian music. Bands like Country Comfort, Cecilio & Kapono, Keola and Kapono Beamer, and Olomana were playing to capacity crowds at concert halls and arenas, and their albums were selling thousands of copies. Kalapana (band)
Kalapana is an American pop-rock band from Honolulu, Hawaii. They are known for their songs “Naturally” and “The Hurt”. History Early history (1973 – 1986) In 1973, childhood friends DJ Pratt and Malani Bilyeu auditioned at the Rainbow Villa for Cecilio & Kapono. Bilyeu was a solo performer at the Oar House in Hawaii Kai while Pratt was downstairs at Chuck’s in Sunlight with Kirk Thompson. They got together in Pratt’s grandfather’s garage with Mackey Feary, another solo act at the Oar House. They wrote songs, rehearsed, and at one point discussed the meaning of Kalapana. The literal translation of the word “Kalapana” is “sprouting money”. Thompson said the meaning was “beat of the music”, but he preferred the name “Dove” for the band. Pratt thought it meant “black sand”. Regardless, they named themselves Kalapana, playing their first gig at Chuck’s in Hawaii Kai. The monarch butterfly or simply monarch (''Danaus plexippus'') is a milkweed butterfly (subfamily Danainae) in the family Nymphalidae. Other common names, depending on region, include milkweed, common tiger, wanderer, and black-veined brown. Ben Cayetano
Benjamin Jerome Cayetano (born November 14, 1939) is an American politician and author who served as the fifth governor of the State of Hawaii from 1994 to 2002. He is the first Filipino American to serve as a state governor in the United States. Early years Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Cayetano was estranged from his mother at a young age. Cayetano was raised by his father in Kalihi, an ethnic Filipino neighborhood west of downtown Honolulu. He would grow up as a latchkey child. In Kalihi, he attended Wallace Rider Farrington High School, a public school aptly known locally as "Home of the Governors" as its buildings were named after several early Hawaii statesmen. A restraining order or protective order, is an order used by a court to protect a person in a situation involving alleged domestic violence, child abuse, assault, harassment, stalking, or sexual assault. Kamasami Kong (real name Robert W. Zix, born December 21, 1949 in Hamilton, Ohio) is an American disc jockey living in Tokyo. He has been active in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, as well as previsously in Hawaii with the radio program "The Kamasami Kong Show" on Hawaii Public Radio, KKUA and KUBT, KIKI. Biography Kong began his radio career in 1965 with the radio station WMOH. He moved to Hawaii in the late 1970s, becoming a household name in the throughout 1970s and ‘80s as Hawaii’s premiere DJ.
