''Maciste in the Lion's Cage'' (Italian:''Maciste nella gabbia dei leoni'') is a 1926 Italian silent adventure film directed by Guido BrignoneBrunetta p.64 and starring Bartolomeo Pagano, Elena Sangro and Luigi Serventi. It was part of the popular Maciste series of films. It was the penultimate film of the silent series, followed by ''The Giant of the Dolomites'' (1927) Synopsis Maciste is sent to Africa by a circus showman to capture some lions. Guido Brignone
Guido Brignone (6 December 1886 – 6 March 1959) was an Italian film director and actor. He was the father of actress Lilla Brignone and younger brother of actress Mercedes Brignone. Brignone was born in Milan, Italy. He was the first Italian Director to win the Venice Film Festival or Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica, the oldest film festival in the world, with Best Italian Film, ''Teresa Confalonieri'' (1934). ''Oreste'' ("Orestes", HWV A11, HG 48/102) is an opera by George Frideric Handel in three acts. The libretto was anonymously adapted from Giangualberto Barlocci’s ''L’Oreste'' (1723, Rome), which was in turn adapted from Euripides' ''Iphigeneia in Tauris''.Hicks The opera is a ''pasticcio'' (pastiche), meaning that the music of the arias was assembled from earlier works, mainly other operas and cantatas also by Handel.
