Macho (film)
''Macho'' is a 2016 Mexican comedy film, directed by Antonio Serrano and starring Miguel Rodarte, Cecilia Suárez, Aislinn Derbez and Renato López. Paul Julian Smith describes the film as a "post-homophobic comedy"; it is an example of the new wave of Mexican LGBT+ cinema. Release It was released to cinemas on November 11, 2016. In the first three weeks of its release, up to November 27, it grossed 32 million Mexican pesos (ca. 1.6 million US dollars) and was seen by 740,000 viewers. Antonio Serrano (director)
José Antonio Serrano Argüelles (born 17 May 1955, in Mexico City) is a Mexican film director, actor, playwright and screenwriter. He graduated with a degree in Communications from the Universidad Iberoamericana. He also attended the '' Royal Weber Academy of Dramatic Art'' in England and the ''Odin Teater'' of Denmark. He studied with the following directors: Polish Jerzy Grotowski, French Philippe Gaulier and Italian Carlos Bosso. Back in Mexico he worked in the telenovela (soap opera) industry for Televisa and TV Azteca, directing actors such as Gael García Bernal, Salma Hayek, Chayanne and Angélica Aragón. He directed ten plays as well including ''Sexo, pudor y lágrimas'', which he also wrote. He made this play into a film in 1999 which became the highest grossing at the time (, or 12 million US dollars at thexchange rate of 1999. Rotten Tomatoes
Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Although the name "Rotten Tomatoes" connects to the practice of audiences throwing rotten tomatoes in disapproval of a poor stage performance, the original inspiration comes from a scene featuring tomatoes in the Canadian film ''Léolo'' (1992). Mexican Sex Comedy
The Mexican sex comedy film genre, generally known as Ficheras film or Sexicomedias was a genre of sexploitation and Mexploitation films of the Mexican cinema that flourished in the 1970s and 1980s. It is recognized as a collection of usually low quality films with low budgets. Although the films had sexual tones and used double entendre, they were not particularly explicit (it was common for the male characters in this films to comedically fail in their attempts to have sex the female characters, and when intercourse did happen the performances were exaggerated and pantomime-like, aiming to generate laughter more than arousal). The genre is possibly based on the Italian erotic comedies. Mauricio Feres Yázbek (December 16, 1926 – February 27, 1989), known professionally as Erasmo Perez, was a Mexican actor and comedian. Personal life and career Garcés was of Lebanese descent and was born in the Mexican port of Tampico, Tamaulipas. With the support of his uncle, the producer José Yázbek, he was included in the production of ''La Muerte Enamorada'' ("Death In Love", 1950), a comedy starring Miroslava and Fernando Fernández. After that film, Mauricio adopted the artistic last name "Garcés", believing the letter "G" would bring good luck and turn him into a star at the level of his idols Clark Gable, Gary Cooper and Cary Grant.
