Machine Head
A machine head (also referred to as a tuning machine, tuner, or gear head) is a geared apparatus for tuning stringed musical instruments by adjusting string tension. Machine heads are used on mandolins, guitars, double basses and others, and are usually located on the instrument's headstock. Other names for guitar tuners include pegs, gears, machines, cranks, knobs, tensioners and tighteners. Non-geared tuning devices as used on violins, violas, cellos, lutes, older Flamenco guitars and ukuleles are known as friction pegs, which hold the string to tension by way of friction caused by their tapered shape and by the string pull created by the tight string. Machine Head (band)
Machine Head is an American heavy metal band from Oakland, California. The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist/rhythm guitarist Robb Flynn, who remains the only original member of the band. Machine Head's aggressive musicianship made it one of the pioneering bands in the new wave of American heavy metal. Its current lineup comprises Flynn, bassist Jared MacEachern, lead guitarist Wacław Kiełtyka and drummer Matt Alston. Bassist Adam Duce, lead guitarists Logan Mader, Ahrue Luster and Phil Demmel, and drummers Tony Costanza, Chris Kontos and Dave McClain are former members of the band; Mader and Kontos toured with the band in 2019 and 2020 as part of the 25th anniversary tour for its first album, ''Burn My Eyes'' (1994). Machine Head's first four albums earned the band a growing fan base in Europe, however the band would not have success in the United States until later releases. ''Machine Head'' is the sixth studio album released by the English rock band Deep Purple. It was recorded in December 1971 at Montreux, Switzerland, and released on 25 March 1972 on Purple Records. As previous recording sessions had been slotted into the group's gigging schedule, Deep Purple wanted to dedicate time to record an album away from the typical studio environment, hoping it would result in a sound closer to their live shows. They hired the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio for recording, and block-booked the Montreux Casino as a venue, but during a Frank Zappa concert immediately before the sessions, the casino burned to the ground. After a week of searching for an alternative venue, including a session at a nearby theatre that was abandoned due to noise complaints, the band managed to book the Grand Hotel, closed for the winter, and converted it into a live room suitable for recording. "Machinehead" is a song by English rock band Bush, released on 9 April 1996 as the fifth and final single from their 1994 debut album, ''Sixteen Stone''. Music video The music video was directed by Shawn Mortensen in London and Portsmouth. Sections of Shepherd's Bush, where the band members used to live, can be seen in the video. Gavin Rossdale's dog Winston is also in the video. Commercial performance "Machinehead" reached No. 43 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 on 4 May 1996. It reached No. 4 on both the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. The song was nominated for Best Video from a Film at the 1996 MTV Music Video Awards but lost; however, it did win the MTV Movie Award for Best Song from a Movie at the 1996 MTV Movie Awards. Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
is an anime series produced by Anime International Company, AIC. It is a reboot of the 1987 original video animation, OVA series ''Bubblegum Crisis'', which focuses on the Knight Sabers, a rogue vigilante group made up of four women who use powered suits to fight rogue Boomer robots made by the megacorporation Genom. ''Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040'' premiered on TV Tokyo on October 8, 1998, where it ran until its conclusion on March 31, 1999. Toshiba EMI released the series on VHS and Laserdisc across 13 volumes, each containing two episodes. The first volume was released on January 21, 1999; the final volume was released July 26, 2000. The series was later released on DVD, however the Japanese versions were simply the American DVD releases encoded to play for DVD region code#Region codes and countries, Region 2.
