Maccabi Ironi Rehovot ( he, מכבי עירוני רחובות) is a professional basketball club based in Rehovot in central Israel. The team plays in the Liga Leumit (basketball), Liga Leumit. History Maccabi Rehovot was founded in 1950 and played in the Liga Artzit (basketball), Liga Artzit (the third-tier division). During the nineties, Rehovot was coached by Moti Aroesti, a former Maccabi Tel Aviv B.C., Maccabi Tel Aviv player, and played in the Liga Leumit (basketball), Liga Leumit. In the 2015–16 season, Rehovot was promoted to the Liga Leumit for the first time in 17 years. In the 2017–18 season, Rehovot reached the Liga Leumit Semifinals as the third seed but eventually lost to Maccabi Kiryat Gat B.C., Maccabi Kiryat Gat. In the 2018–19 season, Rehovot have been relegated to the Liga Artzit (basketball), Liga Artzit, the third tier of the Israeli Basketball. Liga Leumit (basketball)
Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second tier level league of basketball competition in Israel. It is the league level that is below the first tier Israeli Basketball Premier League, Israeli Premier League. League system The league contains 15 clubs that compete in a home-and-away Round-robin tournament, round-robin. At the end of the season, the top eight clubs advance to the play-offs. The first round is played on a best-of-three basis. The four winning clubs advance to two best-of-five playoffs, the winners of which are promoted to the Super League. Moti Aroesti
Motti Aroesti (born 11 July 1954), is a retired Israeli professional basketball player and coach. Biography Motti Aroesti was born in Givatayim. Basketball career Aroesti played club basketball with Maccabi Tel Aviv, from 1973 to 1988. Aroesti wore the Maccabi jersey for 15 consecutive seasons, and won an Israeli League title for each of those years, as well as 11 Israeli State Cups. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop.
