Maccabi Ironi Netivot ( he, מכבי עירוני נתיבות) is an Israeli football club based in Netivot. The club is currently in Liga Bet South B division. History The club was founded in 2002, after the previous football club of the city, Hapoel Netivot, which have played in Liga Gimel South division, up until the 2000–01 season, was dissolved, following eight matches suspension due to crowd trouble. Maccabi Ironi Netivot won Liga Gimel South division in the 2003–04 season and were promoted to Liga Bet, and in the 2006–07 season, they won Liga Bet South B division, and were promoted to Liga Alef. Maccabi World Union is an international Jewish sports organisation spanning five continents (Africa, North America, South America, Australia, Europe) and more than 50 countries, with some 400,000 members. Liga Artzit ( he, ליגה ארצית, lit. ''Country League'') is the defunct third division of Israeli Football League, beneath its highest division Premier League and the second division Liga Leumit. Before being cancelled in 2009, it was run by the Israel Football Association. It was replaced by Liga Alef. Structure There were 12 teams in Liga Artzit. Each team played 33 matches; the first 22 matches were played on a home and away basis, with the last 11 fixtures based on league positions after 22 games. Like the majority of leagues in the world, three points were awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. Final League positions were determined firstly by points obtained, then by goal difference, then goals scored, and if necessary, a mini-league of the results between two or more teams ranked using the previous three criteria and finally a series of one or more play off matches. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. 2011–12 Liga Alef
The 2011–12 Liga Alef season saw Hapoel Asi Gilboa (champions of the North Division) and Maccabi Yavne (champions of the South Division) win their regional divisions and qualify for promotion play-offs. Maccabi Yavne won the promotion play-offs and promoted to Liga Leumit. After playing 8 matches, Maccabi Ironi Jatt (playing in South division) withdrew from the league and their record was annulled, leaving to South division to be played with 15 clubs. The bottom two clubs in North division, Maccabi Tamra and Ahi Acre and the bottom club in South division, Maccabi HaShikma Ramat Hen were all automatically relegated to Liga Bet, whilst the two clubs which were ranked in 14th place in each division, Hapoel Hadera and Maccabi Ironi Netivot entered a promotion/relegation play-offs, Hapoel Hadera prevailing to stay in Liga Alef, while Maccabi Ironi Netivot were relegated after losing the play-offs. Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second division of the Israeli Football League, and below its Premier League. Structure There are 16 clubs in the league. At the end of each season, the two lowest-placed teams are relegated to Liga Alef while the two highest-placed teams from Liga Alef are promoted in their place. The two highest-placed Liga Leumit teams are promoted to the Israeli Premier League while the bottom two teams from Israeli Premier League are relegated in their place. The participating clubs were first play a conventional round-robin schedule for a total of 30 matches, with all points accumulated by the clubs are halved. Football as an organised sport, first developed in the United Kingdom, who controlled Mandatory Palestine during the days of the British Mandate. The Israel Football Association joined the Asian Football Confederation in 1954, but was expelled in 1974 due to political pressure from Arab and Muslim members in the context of the Arab–Israeli conflict. Netivot ( he, נְתִיבוֹת, "''paths''", ar, نتيڤوت) is a city in the Southern District of Israel located between Beersheba and Gaza. In , it had a population of . History Netivot was founded in 1956 and named after the bible: "All her paths are peace." (Proverbs 3:17) Initially a ma'abara, it was later transformed into a development town. 2008–09 Liga Alef
The 2008–09 Liga Alef season was the last season of Liga Alef as the fourth tier of the Israeli football league system. Third tier, Liga Artzit, was scrapped, while the Premier League and Liga Leumit were expanded to 16 clubs each, making Liga Alef the third tier, as well as expanding the two regional divisions to 16 clubs. The season saw Ahva Arraba (champions of the North Division) and Maccabi Be'er Sheva (champions of the South Division) winning the title and promotion to Liga Leumit. Liga Alef
Liga Alef ( he, ליגה א', , League A) is the third tier of the Israeli football league system. It is divided into two regional divisions, north and south. History League football began in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef. The 1952–53 season was also not played, and Liga Alef resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division.
