Maccabi Haifa Football Club ( he, מועדון הכדורגל מכבי חיפה, ''Moadon HaKaduregel Maccabi Haifa'') is an Israeli professional football club, based in the city of Haifa, Israel, a section of Maccabi Haifa sports club. The club plays in the Israeli Premier League. Maccabi Haifa home games are played at Sammy Ofer Stadium. The stadium, which is shared with rivals Hapoel Haifa, is the second largest in Israeli football, with a capacity of 30,858. Maccabi Haifa is one of the "Big Four" clubs in Israeli football. Mount Carmel ( he, הַר הַכַּרְמֶל, Har haKarmel; ar, جبل الكرمل, Jabal al-Karmil), also known in Arabic as Mount Mar Elias ( ar, link=no, جبل مار إلياس, Jabal Mār Ilyās, lit=Mount Saint Elias/Elijah), is a coastal mountain range in northern Israel stretching from the Mediterranean Sea towards the southeast. The 2020–21 Israeli Premier League, also known as Ligat Tel Aviv Stock Exchange for sponsorship reasons, was the 22nd season since its introduction in 1999 and the 79th season of top-tier football in Israel. The season began on 22 August 2020 and concluded on 30 May 2021. Teams A total of fourteen teams are competing in the league, including twelve sides from the 2019–20 season and two promoted teams from the 2019–20 Liga Leumit. Maccabi Petah Tikva were promoted as the winners of the 2019–20 Liga Leumit. Bnei Sakhnin were promoted as the Runner-ups of the 2019–20 Liga Leumit. Yochanan Vollach
Yochanan Vollach ( he, יוחנן וולך, also Jochanan Wallach or Yohanan Wallach, born May 14, 1945) is an Israeli former footballer. He was a member of the Israeli national team that competed at the 1970 FIFA World Cup. He is a member of the Israeli Football Hall of Fame. Vollach is President of the Maccabi Haifa sports organization, and CEO of the Israeli Chamber of Shipping. Biography Born in Kiryat Bialik, Vollach began his sports career with his local club, Maccabi Kiryat Bialik. In 1963, he was drafted to the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) Nahal as an infantry soldier. One of only a handful of professional footballers to serve in active combat in the Nahal, Vollach missed an entire season of football. Shlomo Scharf ( he, שלמה שרף; born 1 January 1943) is a former Israeli football player and manager who now works as a regular commentator on Israeli Sport 5 TV channel. Scharf managed Maccabi Haifa to three championships, and was Israel national football team manager from 1992 to 1999. Managerial career Scharf managed the Israeli national team from 1992 to 1999 during which time he beat France 3-2 in an away game, and his contract was repeatedly extended due to his improvements. Further international victories were achieved against Poland and Bulgaria whilst qualifying for the European Championships and World Cup (France) respectively. His most notable victory is regarded to be his 5-0 win against Austria. Major losses were during two home games against Cyprus, and losing to Denmark in the Euro 2000 playoffs which ended his tenure as manager. Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second division of the Israeli Football League, and below its Premier League. Structure There are 16 clubs in the league. At the end of each season, the two lowest-placed teams are relegated to Liga Alef while the two highest-placed teams from Liga Alef are promoted in their place. The two highest-placed Liga Leumit teams are promoted to the Israeli Premier League while the bottom two teams from Israeli Premier League are relegated in their place.
