Maccabi Afula F.C.
Maccabi Afula ( he, מכבי עפולה) was an Israeli football club based in Afula. History The club was founded in 1955 and joined Liga Gimel, the fourth tier of Israeli football at the time. In the 1978–79 season, Maccabi won Liga Gimel Galilee division and were promoted to Liga Bet (the fourth tier since 1976), where they played in the North B division. In the 1982–83 season, Maccabi faced their local rivals, Hapoel Afula (which were transferred from the North A division), winning in both derby matches 4–0 and 2–1. At the end of the season, Maccabi won their division and achieved historic promotion to Liga Alef. The best player who played for the club Is Yotam Kritz, the best scorer of the club. In various sports, a forfeit is a method in which a match automatically ends, and the forfeiting team loses. There are two distinct forms of forfeiture. One occurs when a team is unable (or refuses) to meet the basic standards for playing the game, either before the game begins or as a result of actions that happen during the match. In such a case, the team not forfeiting wins the match. Another is ''punitive forfeiture'', in which a team has been found to have broken the rules of a sanctioning body during a match they have won and must have the results stricken from the record; whether or not the other team receives a win in such a case depends on the rules of that body and/or whether or not they were in compliance with the rules - if neither team was in compliance with the rules and/or the rules do not allow a losing team to be credited for a win in such a manner then the result is either a ''double forfeit'' and/or otherwise recorded as a loss for both teams. The Israeli Premier League ( he, ליגת העל, ''Ligat Ha`Al'', ), is a professional association football league which operates as the highest division of the Israeli Football League – the state's league of Israel. The league is contested by 14 clubs, and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with its second division Liga Leumit. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing between 33 and 36 matches each, totalling 240 matches in every season. The competition formed in 1999 following the decision of the Israel Football Association to form a new league. Liga Artzit ( he, ליגה ארצית, lit. ''Country League'') is the defunct third division of Israeli Football League, beneath its highest division Premier League and the second division Liga Leumit. Before being cancelled in 2009, it was run by the Israel Football Association. It was replaced by Liga Alef. Structure There were 12 teams in Liga Artzit. Each team played 33 matches; the first 22 matches were played on a home and away basis, with the last 11 fixtures based on league positions after 22 games. Like the majority of leagues in the world, three points were awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. 1999–2000 Liga Alef
The 1999–2000 Liga Alef season saw Hapoel Majd al-Krum (champions of the North Division) and Maccabi Ashkelon (champions of the South Division) winning the title and promotion to Liga Artzit. At the end of the season, Liga Artzit clubs, Beitar Tel Aviv and Shimshon Tel Aviv merged to form Beitar Shimshon Tel Aviv, and Hapoel Nir Ramat HaSharon were also promoted. At the bottom, Maccabi Afula (from North division) and Hapoel Or Yehuda (from South division) were all automatically relegated to Liga Bet, whilst Sektzia Nes Tziona were reprieved from relegation, after Maccabi Lazarus Holon folded at the end of the season.
