Murray MacLaren
Murray MacLaren (April 30, 1861 – December 24, 1942) was a Canadian politician and the 18th Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick. Born in Richibucto, New Brunswick, he was a physician before being elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing the New Brunswick riding of St. John—Albert in the 1921 federal election. A Conservative, he was re-elected in 1925, 1926, and 1930. From 1930 to 1934, he was the Minister of Pensions and National Health. From 1935 to 1940, he was the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick. Jim MacLaren
James E. MacLaren (April 13, 1963 – August 31, 2010) was a motivational speaker and author, noted for his record-breaking performances in the marathon and Ironman triathlon after having his left leg amputated below the knee. MacLaren was born on 13 April 1963. He was a standout athlete in football and lacrosse at Yale University. Moreover, even before matriculating at Yale he had been a leading athlete at Vermont Academy. In 1985, at the age of 22, MacLaren lost his left leg below the knee in a motorcycle accident, and had to be defibrillated. He recovered, and went on to run the marathon in 3 hours, 16 minutes, and to finish the Ironman Hawaii in 10 hours, 42 minutes. Then, in 1993, during the Orange County Triathlon, MacLaren was struck by a van during the bike portion of the race and collided with a signpost, rendering him a quadriplegic. Jamie Maclaren (born 29 July 1993) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a striker for A-League club Melbourne City. He has also previously played for Darmstadt 98, Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar and Hibernian. James MacLaren (other)
James Maclaren (March 19, 1818 – February 10, 1892) was an early settler and entrepreneur in western Quebec. Maclaren was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1818. He came to Richmond in Upper Canada with his family in 1822. The family then settled in Torobolton Township and then moved to Wakefield in Lower Canada in the 1840s. Maclaren and his brother David opened a general store, grist mill, woollen mill and brick plant in Wakefield. James also became involved in the timber trade. In 1853, Maclaren leased a sawmill in New Edinburgh from Thomas McKay with partners including Moss Kent Dickinson and Joseph Merrill Currier. By 1861, he was able to buy out his partners and, in 1866, he purchased the mills after McKay's death. In 1864, again with partners, he bought sawmills at Buckingham, later buying out his partners.
