MacGregor Yacht Corporation
The MacGregor Yacht Corporation was a manufacturer of sailing yachts, located in Costa Mesa, California. History MacGregor Yacht Co. was founded by Roger MacGregor as part of a Stanford University MBA class project in the early 1960s. The company was in business until early 2013, having been succeeded by Tattoo Yachts. MacGregor produced primarily small, trailerable sailing yachts, from a catamaran to pocket cruisers, up to water ballasted trailerable sizes. MacGregor has also built a catamaran, and a yacht. The final model produced was the MacGregor 26M, a trailerable sailboat, which is now under production as the Tattoo 26. The 26M had the ability to mount up to a outboard motor. At least two large one-off yachts were built (c) 1987 - one for Mr. MacGregor's daughter (now the owner of Tattoo yachts) and a second for a private party in Connecticut, USA. Portsmouth Yardstick
The Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) or Portsmouth handicap scheme is a term used for a number of related systems of empirical handicapping used primarily in small sailboat racing. The handicap is applied to the time taken to sail any course, and the handicaps can be used with widely differing types of sailboats. Portsmouth Numbers are updated with data from race results, normally annually. The various schemes are not directly linked, and ratings for the same class can and often do vary in the different schemes. Minivan (sometimes called simply as van) is a North American car classification for vehicles designed to transport passengers in the rear seating row(s), with reconfigurable seats in two or three rows. The equivalent classification in Europe is MPV (multi purpose vehicle). Daggerboard
A daggerboard is a retractable centreboard used by various sailing craft. While other types of centreboard may pivot to retract, a daggerboard slides in a casing. The shape of the daggerboard converts the forward motion into a windward lift, countering the leeward push of the sail. The theoretical centre of lateral resistance is on the trailing edge of the daggerboard. General A daggerboard is a removable vertical keel that is inserted through a "trunk" in the center of a vessel's hull, usually amidships. Daggerboards are usually found in small sailing craft such as day sailers, which are easily handled by a single person. American Sailboat Hall Of Fame
The American Sailboat Hall of Fame is a defunct hall of fame honoring 26 production sailboats built-in the United States. The hall of fame was established in 1994 by Sail America, a trade association for the U.S. sailing industry, to recognize ingenuity in designs by American boat builders. The last year of induction was 2004. Half-hull models of each Hall of Fame inductee was housed in a permanent exhibit at The Museum of Yachting located in Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island prior to the museum's dismantling after a 2007 acquisition by the IYRS School of Technology & Trades. The collection also traveled around the country each year to be displayed at the various Strictly Sail boat shows sponsored by Sail America, and at Sail Expo in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
