Maaya (1972 Film)
''Maaya'' is a 1972 Indian Malayalam-language film, directed by Ramu Kariat for Jaya Maruthi, starring Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair in the lead role. Prem Nazir and Sharada also play pivotal roles, supported by Vijayasree, Sujatha, Sankaradi and T. R. Omana playing other important roles. The film was based on an award-winning 1963 novel with the same name by popular novelist K. Surendran. Plot Sankarappillai (Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair) is a local businessman who runs a grocery shop in the village centre. He also owns the little textile shop of the village which his son Raghuvaran Pillai (Adoor Bhasi) operates. Sankarappillai's family also includes his second wife Eeswari (T. R. Ramu Kariat
Ramu Kariat (1 February 1927 – 10 February 1979) was an Indian film director for almost three decades from the 1950s to the 1970s, who directed many acclaimed films in the Malayalam cinema. His noted films include ''Neelakkuyil'' (1954), ''Minnaminungu'' (1957), ''Mudiyanaya Puthran'' (1961), ''Moodupadam'' (1963) and the National Award winning ''Chemmeen'' (1965). Career He started his career through the Kerala People's Arts Club (K.P.A.C.), a leftist theatre group. He debuted in films by co-directing Thiramala (1953) with Vimal Kumar/P.R.S. Adoor Bhasi
K. Bhaskaran Nair (1 March 1929 – 29 March 1990), known by his stage name Adoor Bhasi, was an Indian actor and film director from Kerala. Adoor Bhasi was almost always cast as the man who stands next to the hero. His hilarious actions and roles became the cynosure of comic scenes in the Malayalam films of the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, especially with Ever Green Hero of Malayalam Cinema, Shri Prem Nazir. Sreekumaran Thampi
Sreekumaran Thampi (born 16 March 1940) is an Indian lyricist, music director, director, producer, and screenwriter in Malayalam cinema. He also writes poetry and is a recipient of the Vallathol Award. In 2017, he was awarded the J. C. Daniel Award, Kerala government's highest honour for contributions to Malayalam cinema. Film career Thampi was introduced to the Malayalam film industry in 1966 by P. Subramaniam as a lyricist in the film '' Kaattumallika''. He has produced 25 films, directed 29, and written scripts for 85 films in Malayalam besides writing thousands of songs. Vadakkekarayil Koran Bharathan (16 January 1929- 19 August 2015), better known as Paravoor Bharatan was an Indian actor who acted in Malayalam films. He started his career in movies during the 1950s. Bharathan is known as a versatile actor and has played a variety of roles including negative roles, character roles and comedy roles. Adoor Bhavani
Adoor Bhavani (1927 – 25 October 2009) was an Indian actress in Malayalam cinema, best known for her appearance in the National Award-winning film ''Chemmeen'' (1965), directed by Ramu Kariat. She had acted in about 450 films, including ''Mudiyanaya Puthran'', ''Thulabharam'', Kallichellamma, and ''Anubhavangal Paalichakal''. Her last film was K. Madhu-directed ''Sethurama Iyer CBI''. She was also a stage actress and was associated with popular theatre group KPAC. Bhavani was born in Adoor in Travancore. Her sister, Adoor Pankajam, was also a Malayalam film actress. Adoor Bhavani died on 25 October 2009. Awards and recognitions In 1969, Bhavani won the Kerala state film award for the second best actress for the film Kallichellamma. Balanathan Benjamin Mahendran (19 May 1939 13 February 2014), commonly known as Balu Mahendra, was a Sri Lankan-born Indian cinematographer, director, screenwriter and film editor who worked predominantly in Tamil cinema. Widely regarded as an auteur, Mahendra usually scripted and edited his films apart from shooting them.
