Maari (film)
''Maari'' is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film written and directed by Balaji Mohan, jointly produced by Listin Stephen and Raadhika's Magic Frames and Dhanush's Wunderbar Films. The film stars Dhanush, singer Vijay Yesudas, and Kajal Aggarwal, while Robo Shankar, Kalloori Vinoth, Kaali Venkat, and Mime Gopi play supporting roles. Dhanush plays Maari, a local gangster. This film also marks Vijay Yesudas's Tamil debut. Anirudh Ravichander composed the film's soundtrack and score while Om Prakash and Prasanna G. K. undertook the film's cinematography and editing respectively. After being in pre-production phase since March 2014, principal photography began on 5 November 2014 and lasted till 15 March 2015. The film was shot in and around Chennai and Tuticorin. ''Maari'' was released on 17 July 2015. The film received poor reviews upon its release, but had a decent collection at the box office. Balaji Mohan
Balaji Mohan (born 25 May 1987) is an Indian filmmaker and actor in Tamil-language films. After discontinuing his engineering studies to pursue his passion and become a director, he enrolled at a film academy and attended courses and workshops, besides participating in short film contests. After shooting more than half-a-dozen short films, he directed his first full-length bilingual film romantic comedy ''Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi'' (Tamil) based on one of his own short films. Early life Balaji was born on 25 May 1987 in Tiruchirappalli. He pursued his schooling in Campion Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, Tiruchirappalli, and later joined the Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering in Chennai for his higher studies, albeit he had decided in 10th class already that he wanted to become a director. Mime Gopi is an Indian stage and film actor who has appeared in predominantly Tamil films including ''Madras'' (2014), ''Kathakali'' (2016), and ''Kabali'' (2016). Career Mime Gopi already acted in Saravanan Meenatchi season 1 along with Mirchi Saravanan as money launderer. Prior to his entrance into the film industry, Gopi was a renowned mime actor in Chennai and headed G Mime Studio, a studio which exhibited the art form. In his role, he worked closely with children with special needs to help them adapt miming skills. The actor celebrates every birthday and festivals by doing charity work across Tamil Nadu.
