Ma Liwen
Ma Liwen (born 1971) is a female Chinese film director. She has directed a handful of films during the 2000s, including 2005's ''You and Me'', and two films in 2008, ''Lost and Found'' and ''Desires of the Heart''. Biography Born Ma Xiaoying in 1971 in Jiangxi province, Ma would move to Beijing in the early 1990s. She graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in 1994, and is one of Fifth Generation director Tian Zhuangzhuang's protégés along with Ning Hao. Her debut film, ''Gone Is the One Who Held Me Dearest in the World'', was shot on a small budget. In 2005, Ma Liwen directed ''You and Me'', which drew on her own experiences living in a small courtyard apartment in Beijing. Jiangxi
Jiangxi (; ; formerly romanized as Kiangsi or Chianghsi) is a landlocked province in the east of the People's Republic of China. Its major cities include Nanchang and Jiujiang. The film was based on the novel, '' I am Liu Yuejin'' by Liu Zhenyun and tells the story of a down-on-his-luck migrant cook who loses his life savings while in Beijing. The Golden Rooster Awards () are film awards given in mainland China. The awards were originally given annually, beginning in 1981. The name of the award came from the year of the Rooster in 1981. Award recipients receive a statuette in the shape of a golden rooster, and are selected by a jury of filmmakers, film experts, and film historians. The awards are the Chinese equivalent to the American Academy Awards. Originally, Golden Roosters were only available to mainland Chinese nominees, but in 2005, the awards opened up the acting categories to actors from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and elsewhere in an effort to compete with Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards.
