M Osman Ghani
M Osman Ghani ( bn, মোহাম্মদ ওসমান গণি; – July 21, 1989) was a Bangladeshi scientist, educationist, and academic. He served as the 11th vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka. Early life and education Ghani was born on 1 March 1912, to a Bengali Muslim family in the village of Gazadia in Karimganj, Kishoreganj, Bengal Presidency. His parents were Haji Muhammad Darbar Ali and Maqbula Begum. He completed primary and middle school in his village, before enrolling to the Department of Chemistry at the University of Dhaka. In 1935, Ghani became the first South Asian Muslim to have obtained a master's in biochemistry from the University of Dhaka. He later earned his Ph.D. degree in agricultural chemistry from the University of London in 1938. Career Ghani joined the University of Dhaka in India as a lecturer of soil science in 1940. Kishoreganj ( bn, কিশোরগঞ্জ) is a district in Dhaka Division, Bangladesh. Earlier it was a Mohkuma (মহকুমা) under the Mymensingh district. It was taken 2495.07 sq. km of land from Mymensingh district to form present day Kishoreganj District. Kishorganj consists of eight municipalities, 13 upazilas, 105 union parishads, 39 wards, 145 mahallas, 946 mouzas and 1775 villages. The university was founded in 1889 as the State Normal School of Colorado and has a long history in teacher education. The Nishan-e-Pakistan ( ur, , , ''Order of Pakistan'') is the highest civilian award of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It is awarded for "those who have rendered services of highest distinction" to the national interest of Pakistan. Nishan is awarded to government officials and civilians, including citizens of Pakistan and foreign nationals. In the Pakistan honours system, Nishan-e-Pakistan is equivalent to Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military gallantry award.
