MXGP
FIM Motocross World Championship is the premier championship of motocross racing, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), divided into two distinct classes: MXGP and MX2. Race duration is 30 minutes plus two laps per race. The series runs 18 events with two races per class at each round. History The FIM Motocross World Championship is a worldwide motocross series sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, F.I.M. It was inaugurated in 1957 using a 500 cc engine displacement formula. In 1962 a 250cc class was added and in 1975, a 125cc class was introduced. Prior to 1957, the championship was known as the European Championship. In 2004, the F.I.M. changed the displacement formulas to reflect the changes in engine technology and as a move towards environmentally friendlier four-stroke engines. Tim Gajser
Tim Gajser (born 8 September 1996) is a Slovenian professional motocross racer. He has competed in the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Motocross World Championships since 2012. Gajser is notable for being a five-time motocross world champion. Motocross career Gajser previously competed for the Gariboldi Honda motocross racing team managed by Giacomo Gariboldi. In the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship season, he won his first world championship in the MX2. Gajser moved up to the MX1 class and won the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship, 2016 MX1 Motocross World Championship. Leok
Tanel Leok (born 1 June 1985) is an Estonian professional motocross racer. He has competed in the Motocross World Championships since 2001. Early life Tanel was born in Võru, Estonia and currently resides in Balen, Belgium. His father, Arvo Leok, was a motocross rider and introduced his son to the sport at a young age. He lived in Estonia and attended Sõmerpalu Primary school until he was 16 years old when he decided to pursue his racing career full-time. Career Early career He became the first rider with two junior world titles to his credit, winning the 85 cc FIM world cup in 2000 and the 125cc FIM Junior World Cup in 2001. He turned semi-professional midway through the 2001 season, and qualified for a number of GP races at 15 years of age. Beta (motorcycle Manufacturer)
Beta is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer, specialising in off-road motorcycles. Beta are best known for their popular observed trials bikes. In 2005, they launched a range of enduro motorcycles using KTM engines. In 2010 they launched the new RR series, with a new engine made in-house. Auguste Mingels
Auguste Mingels (24 March 1921 – 20 May 1973) was a Belgian professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1947 to 1957. Mingels is notable for winning two consecutive F.I.M. 500cc European motocross championships in 1953 and 1954. Les Archer, who won the 1956 European motocross championship, considered Mingels to be one of the best European motocross riders of his era. Motorcycling career Mingels was born in Liège, Belgium and began racing motorcycles in 1947. His portly physique earned him the affectionate nickname of "Le Gros". Jeff Smith (motorcyclist)
Jeffrey Vincent Smith MBE (born 1934) is an English former professional motorcycle racer. His achievements in motorcycle racing include two FIM 500cc Motocross World Championships (1964, 1965), two British Trials Championships, multiple British Experts Trial wins, four individual race wins in the Motocross des Nations, one Scottish Six Days Trial win and eight ISDT Gold Medals. He was a member of the BSA factory racing team. In 1970, Smith was awarded the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire. Riding career Born in Colne, Lancashire, England, Smith began in competitions as a trials rider, becoming so successful that he was offered a place on the Norton factory team. After moving to BSA, he won the 1953 and 1954 British Trials Championship. The 1954 Motocross European Championship was the 3rd edition of the Motocross European Championship organized by the FIM and reserved for 500cc motorcycles. Since 1957 this championship has then become the current Motocross World Championship. It should not be confused with the European Motocross Championship, now organized by the FIM Europe, whose first edition was held in 1988. Final standings From April to August 7 grand prix were held which awarded points to the first six classified, respectively: 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1. René Baeten
René Baeten (10 June 1927, in Herentals – 5 June 1960, in Stekene) was a Belgian professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1947 to 1960. Baeten is notable for winning the 1958 500cc Motocross World Championship. In 1958, Baeten was named the recipient of the Belgian National Sports Merit Award. In 1953 and 1954, Baeten finished second in the 500cc European motocross championships to Auguste Mingels. In 1957, the F.I.M. upgraded the competition to world championship status, and again Baeten would finish in second place, this time to Bill Nilsson on an AJS motorcycle. John Draper (motorcyclist)
John Draper (1929 – 24 December 2002) was an English professional motorcycle racer. He was a versatile rider competing in many diverse motorcycle competitions, most notably motocross in which he became the first British rider to win the European Motocross Championship in 1955. Draper also competed in trials, enduro and road racing competitions.
