MV Werften
MV Werften is a Hong Kong–Germany, German shipbuilding company that operates three facilities in eastern Germany to construct cruise ships for parent company Genting Hong Kong. In January 2022, MV Werften filed for bankruptcy, and an administrator was appointed by the court to oversee the bankruptcy proceedings. History The company was originated in Genting Hong Kong's purchase in April 2016 of three shipyards from Nordic Yards, located in Lloyd Werft Wismar, Wismar, Volkswerft, Stralsund, and Rostock-Warnemünde. The yards were initially combined with Lloyd Werft, previously purchased by Genting, to form the Lloyd Werft Group, but in July 2016 the three eastern ex-Nordic yards were organized into MV Werften, headquartered in Wismar and led by Jarmo Laakso. Gross tonnage (GT, G.T. or gt) is a nonlinear measure of a ship's overall internal volume. Gross tonnage is different from gross register tonnage. Neither gross tonnage nor gross register tonnage should be confused with measures of mass or weight such as deadweight tonnage or Displacement (ship), displacement. Gross tonnage, along with net tonnage, was defined by the ''International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, 1969'', adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 1969, and came into force on 18 July 1982. With Genting’s bankruptcy in 2022, the future of the ''Global'' class was in doubt. On November 16, 2022, Disney Cruise Line confirmed it acquired the unfinished ''Global Dream''. Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH is a dockyard in Bremerhaven. It was founded in 1863 by the shipping company Norddeutscher Lloyd, first mainly used as a repair workshop for the company’s own merchant fleet. This new yard was established in exchange and addition to the former small Lloyd-workshop in Bremen which was already founded in 1857. In the 1970s, the shipyard became member of the Vulkan Group. As of 2016, the Lloyd facility is the last remaining major dockyard in Bremerhaven. It employs 500 workers and occupies 260,000 m². Ships with a draught as deep as 11.5 m can be accommodated. Volkswerft
Volkswerft (german: Volkswerft Stralsund GmbH) is a shipyard in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund on the Strelasund. It is part of the German Hegemann-group. The Volkswerft was founded in 1948 as ''Ingenieurbau Ges.m.b.H.''. On April 25 the first trawler was delivered and on June 15, 1948 the '' VEB Volkswerft Stralsund'' was registered. From 1948 till 1953 the shipyard produced 196 ships, all of them to be used for reparation payments to the Soviet Union.
