Elizabeth Quay
Elizabeth Quay is a mixed-use development project in the Perth#cbd, Perth central business district. Focusing on an area located on the north shore of Perth Water near the landmark Swan Bells, the precinct being developed by the project was named in honour of the former Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II, Diamond Jubilee. The project includes construction of an artificial inlet on what was previously the Esplanade Reserve, and modifications to the surrounding environs including Barrack Square. Captain Cook Cruises is a cruise and ferry operator on the Swan River, Perth. History Captain Cook Cruises was founded in 1980 by Rottnest Island ferry operator Boat Torque Cruises. In July 1987 the business was sold to Tony Baker and John Goodbody with the ''MV Captain Cook'' and the ''MV Swan Explorer''. In May 1990 the Swan River Scenic Cruises business was purchased with the ''MV Jolly Jumbuck'' which was rebuilt and renamed the ''MV Swan Princess''. From October 1992 until September 1997, the ''MV Perth'' was leased from Transperth. In October 1995 the ''MV James Stirling'' was launched. Shelley Taylor-Smith
Shelley Taylor-Smith (born 3 August 1961) is a former Australian long-distance swimmer. Born in Perth, Western Australia, Taylor-Smith suffered from scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine, throughout her school years. The condition required her to wear a back brace, although she was successful in national age group swimming competitions. While on a swimming scholarship to the University of Arkansas in the United States, the heavy training regime caused a lower-body paralysis. During her recovery, her coach noticed that her swimming improved at greater distances, and encouraged her to take up marathon swimming, a sport which would also allow her to avoid potentially back-damaging tumble turns. Taylor-Smith's first major achievement was breaking the world four-mile record in 1983. Subsequently, she won the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim five times, breaking the world record in 1995 for swimming the 48 km distance in five hours, 45 minutes and 25 seconds. She also w ... Mends Street Jetty
Mends Street Jetty is located in South Perth in Western Australia. The jetty is on the southern shore of the Swan River in the section known as Perth Water. The ferry service is primarily used for accessing the Perth Zoo from the Perth central business district. History It is not known when the first jetty at Mends Street was built, however, with the opening of the Perth Zoo in October 1898 it was recognised that a regular cross-river ferry service was needed. Therefore, at about that time, the existing jetty was widened to and an existing service that ran between William Street and Queen Street Jetty was extended to Mends Street. Coogee is a southern coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Cockburn. History The suburb takes its name from the lake, Lake Coogee, in the area, which translates to "Body of water" in the native Aboriginal Nyoongar language. Transperth is the brand name of the public transport system serving the city and suburban areas of Perth, the state capital of Western Australia. Minister for Transport is a position in the government of Western Australia, currently held by Rita Saffioti of the Labor Party.
