Rivermaya
Rivermaya is a Filipino alternative rock band. Formed in 1994, it is one of the several bands who spearheaded the 1990s Philippine alternative rock explosion. Rivermaya is currently composed of original members Mark Escueta and Nathan Azarcon, together with longest serving guitarist Mike Elgar. Notable former original members include chief songwriter Rico Blanco and vocalist Bamboo Mañalac, who later formed the band Bamboo and later went on his solo career. Rivermaya is one of the top thirty best-selling artists in Philippine history. ''You'll Be Safe Here'' is an EP by OPM rock band Rivermaya that features the eponymous song first used as the theme song of the 2004 ABS-CBN TV horror-drama series ''Spirits''. The CD of the EP includes two music videos for "You'll Be Safe Here", where the second video used an advanced technology that translates the song's lyrics into Filipino. The song was performed by the band at the 2006 MTV Asia Awards, where Rivermaya was the only Filipino band to perform. The song reached #1 on the Philippine music charts during its release. Two years after its release, it gained popularity in Asia and was thereafter slated for a European release. The song "Liwanag Sa Dilim (Kaya mo 'to)" was previously released as a single on the Repackaged version of the band's album ''Between the Stars and Waves''. Bamboo (Filipino Band)
Bamboo was a Filipino alternative rock band formed in 2003 by lead vocalist Bamboo Mañalac, bassist Nathan Azarcon, lead and rhythm guitarist Ira Cruz and drummer Vic Mercado. Band origin Francisco "Bamboo" Mañalac serves as the band's frontman. Ira Cruz, the band's guitarist claimed that the name of the band was not just derived from their vocalist's name but also from the word ''bamboo'', the characteristics of which are associated with strength and durability with an island feel to it. Also, it's very Filipino and Asian at the same time. Two of its members, Bamboo Mañalac and Nathan Azarcon, were formerly part of Rivermaya. The other two members, Ira Cruz and Vic Mercado, were former instrumentalists of another band, Passage. Cruz and Azarcon were also former members of the band Kapatid during that time. Parokya ni Edgar (lit: Edgar's Parish) is a Filipino band formed in 1993. The band is known for its original rock novelty songs and often satirical covers of popular songs both foreign and local. The band is adept at playing in various musical genres. Parokya ni Edgar has been referred to by local media outlets and numerous award-giving bodies as "Pambansang Banda ng Pilipinas" ("''The National Band of the Philippines''"). Despite having "Edgar" in the band's name, none of the members are named Edgar.
