Tribes Of The City
Tribes of the City is a shoegaze, dreampop band from Riga, Latvia. The band was formed in 2003 and has recorded four full-length albums. They have gained a nationwide success and were nominated for MTV Europe Music Awards 2007 as the best Baltic act. The band received an Austra's Award for their 2019 record Rust and Gold named Best Album of 2019 in Latvia. Traditional Latvian music is often set to traditional poetry called '' dainas'', featuring pre-Christian themes and legends, drone vocal styles and Baltic psaltery. Dainas Traditional Latvian folklore, especially the dance of the folk songs, date back well over a thousand years. More than 1.2 million texts and 30,000 melodies of folk songs have been identified. Dainas are very short, usually only one or two stanzas, unrhymed and in a four-footed trochaic metre. The MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 took place in Berlin, Germany at the O2 World and Brandenburg Gate on 5 November 2009. The awards ceremony was presented by Katy Perry for a 2nd consecutive year.
