MTV Europe Music Awards
The MTV Europe Music Awards (originally named MTV European Music Awards, commonly abbreviated as MTV EMA) are awards presented by Paramount International Networks to honour artists and music in pop culture. It was originally conceived as an alternative to the MTV Video Music Awards, which are hosted annually in the United States. The Europe Music Awards are held every year in a different country; it has been hosted mostly in the United Kingdom. Tribes Of The City
Tribes of the City is a shoegaze, dreampop band from Riga, Latvia. The band was formed in 2003 and has recorded four full-length albums. They have gained a nationwide success and were nominated for MTV Europe Music Awards 2007 as the best Baltic act. The band received an Austra's Award for their 2019 record Rust and Gold named Best Album of 2019 in Latvia. History Their first album Running to the Sun was released on Melo Records in 2004 under the name The Movies. The band changed their name to Tribes of the City in 2005. Traditional Latvian music is often set to traditional poetry called '' dainas'', featuring pre-Christian themes and legends, drone vocal styles and Baltic psaltery. Dainas Traditional Latvian folklore, especially the dance of the folk songs, date back well over a thousand years. More than 1.2 million texts and 30,000 melodies of folk songs have been identified. Dainas are very short, usually only one or two stanzas, unrhymed and in a four-footed trochaic metre. Lyrically, dainas concern themselves with native mythology but, in contrast to most similar forms, do not have any legendary heroes. The recorded history of music in Estonia dates back as far as the 12th century. The MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 took place in Berlin, Germany at the O2 World and Brandenburg Gate on 5 November 2009. The awards ceremony was presented by Katy Perry for a 2nd consecutive year. Kerli Kõiv (; born 7 February 1987), better known mononymously as Kerli, is an Estonian singer and songwriter. Born in Elva, Kerli entered multiple singing competitions before being signed to Island Records in 2006 by LA Reid. In 2007, she released her debut self-titled extended play and in 2008, released her debut studio album, '' Love Is Dead'', which charted on the ''Billboard'' 200. The lead single from the album, " Walking on Air," charted in many countries and was also featured as the iTunes Store's Single of the Week where it was downloaded over 500,000 times, a record at that time. Tanel Padar (born 27 October 1980) is an Estonian singer and songwriter. He is best known internationally for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2001. Padar became famous by winning the ''Kaks takti ette'', a biennial televised competition for young Estonian singers, in 1999.
