MOSiR Gdańsk
MOSiR Gdańsk was a football team based in Gdańsk, Poland. The club, Miejskiego Ośrodka Sportu i Rekreacji Gdańsk (''"Municipal Sports and Recreation Center Gdańsk"''), played its games at the Stadion MOSiR, the centre in the city for the sports club in which the football team got its name from. In the 1980s MOSiR Gdańsk often played in the IV liga, and often played against Gdańsk rivals Gedania during these years. In 1987 MOSiR Gdańsk were involved in a merger with Gedania Gdańsk, likely to try to improve the fortunes of the clubs by focusing on one team and having a greater pool of players to initially choose from. This led to Gedania absorbing all aspects of the club and officially leading to MOSiR Gdańsk being dissolved. Former players for the club include Polish internationals Zdzisław Puszkarz and Stanisław Burzyński, while Zbigniew Żemojtel was the club's last manager. Stadion Gdańskiego Ośrodka Sportu
The Stadion Gdańskiego Ośrodka Sportu (''Gdańsk Sports Center Stadium''), sometimes officially called the Lechia Gdańsk Stadion or simply the Lechia Stadion is a multi-purpose stadium in Gdańsk, Poland. The stadium has a capacity for about 12,000 people, however it held 40,000 spectators during a match between Lechia Gdańsk and Italian side Juventus. The stadium was formerly called the ''"Stadium of the City Centre of Sports and Relaxation"'' ( pl, Stadion Miejskiego Ośrodka Sportu i Rekreacji), and was known as ''Stadion MOSiR'' for short, until the Gdańsk Sports Center took over the running of the stadium in 2000. Gedania 1922 Gdańsk
GKS Gedania 1922 is a football team based in Gdańsk, Poland. Founded in 1945 the club was the reforming of Gedania Danzig. History Gedania Danzig Formed on 15 September 1922, Gedania was an ethnic Polish football team who played in the Free City of Danzig (present day Gdańsk, Poland). A sports club was created by the gymnastics club ''Towarzystwo Gimnastyczne Sokół'' (Falcon Gymnastic Company) and was initially given the name Polonia Danzig, ''Polonia'' being the Latinized name for Poland. The local authorities opposed this name however with the club settling for the name Gedania Danzig, ''Gedania'' being the Latinized name of Gdańsk/Danzig. The footballing section of the sports club was not formed until 1933, and competed in the German lower divisions. Zdzisław Puszkarz
Zdzisław Puszkarz (born 18 February 1950) is a Polish former footballer. Puszkarz spent the majority of his career playing for football teams in the Tricity area, spending the majority of his career playing for Lechia Gdańsk. Puszkarz earned one cap for Poland, playing against East Germany on 28 May 1975. Early years Puszkarz first became interested in football due to his father, Tadeusz Puszkarz, who was known as a huge fan of Lechia Gdańsk. This interest grew stronger when Zdzisław himself started to become interested in Lechia, and was quickly a fan often watching the team at Mosir Stadium. Showcasing his football skills at school, his PE teacher saw his talent and recommended him to RKS Stocznia Północna, a now defunct team in Gdańsk. Stanisław Burzyński (footballer)
Stanisław Ryszard Burzyński (19 October 1948 – 5 November 1991) was a Polish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. The majority of his career was spent with teams in the Tricity area, with the exception of a spell in Łódź. Biography Burzyński started his playing career with Lechia Gdańsk in 1966, making his senior debut in the Polish Cup in the 3–0 victory over Wisła Nowe. In total Burzyński made 22 appearances in all competitions over the span of 3 seasons with Lechia. In 1969 he moved to Lechia Gdańsk's main rivals, Arka Gdynia. He spent 7 seasons with Arka over the course of two spells, becoming a fan favourite during that time. In total he made 199 appearances for Arka, with 166 of those coming in the league, and helped Arka to the top division by winning the II liga during his first spell with the club. Zbigniew Żemojtel
Zbigniew Żemojtel (24 March 1943 – 9 January 1995) was a Polish footballer who played as a defender. Żemojtel spent his career playing in the Tricity area of Poland, playing for both Lechia Gdańsk and Arka Gdynia. Biography Żemojtel started playing football in the youth teams of Lechia Gdańsk, making his debut aged 19 on 12 August 1962 against Stal Rzeszów. In his first season with Lechia the team played in the I liga, with Żemojtel making 21 appearances in Poland's top division. At the end of that season Lechia were relegated to the II liga, finishing second from bottom. The next four seasons saw Lechia playing in the II liga, being relegated again at the end of the 1966–67. The next season in the III liga Żemojtel played only four games, but scored his only goal for Lechia, scoring against Flota Gdynia. Gdańsk Derby
The "Gdańsk Derby" ( pl, Derby Gdańska) is the name given to describe football matches between teams in Gdańsk, Poland. While this term can be used for any team in Gdańsk historically this term has been used for games involving Gedania Gdańsk, Lechia Gdańsk and Stoczniowiec Gdańsk, historically the three biggest teams in the city of Gdańsk. Lechia Gdańsk are both the most successful team in Gdańsk as well as the most successful team in the derby. Through most of the derbies history the derby has been played in the second and third divisions, with more recent Gdańsk Derbies being played in the regional divisions. There has never been a Gdańsk Derby in the top division as Lechia Gdańsk are currently the only team from Gdańsk to have ever played in the Ekstraklasa.
