''Major League Baseball on NBC'' is the de facto branding for weekly broadcasts of Major League Baseball (MLB) games that are produced by NBC Sports, and televised on the NBC television network; and, as of 2022, as well as on its co-owned streaming service, Peacock. Major League Baseball games first aired on the network from to , including '' The NBC Game of the Week'', when CBS acquired the broadcast television rights. Games returned to the network in as part of The Baseball Network, a time-brokered package of broadcasts produced by Major League Baseball and split with ABC. 1999 Major League Baseball Season
The 1999 Major League Baseball season ended with the New York Yankees sweeping the Atlanta Braves in the World Series. The previous record of most home runs hit in a season, set at 5,064 in 1998, was broken once again as the American League and National League combined to hit 5,528 home runs. Moreover, it was the first season in 49 years to feature a team that scored 1,000 runs in a season, as the Cleveland Indians led the Majors with 1,009 runs scored. Only 193 shutouts were recorded in 2,427 regular-season games. The 1999 season was the first season in which the two current New York City-area MLB teams, the Yankees and Mets, qualified for the playoffs together in the same season. The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, contested since 1903 between the champion teams of the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). ''Monday Night Baseball'' was a live game telecast of Major League Baseball that aired on Monday nights during the regular season. These games formerly aired weekly on ESPN. The game started at 7 p.m. ET, following ''SportsCenter'', and usually lasted around three hours leading up to an hour-long ''Baseball Tonight''.
