MEN (band)
JD Samson & MEN, originally named simply MEN, was a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective that focuses on the energy of Concert, live performance and the radical potential of dance music. MEN spoke to issues such as trans awareness, wartime economies, sexual compromise, and demanding civil liberties. The collective disbanded in late 2014. History The group began in 2007 as the DJ/production/remix team of Le Tigre members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. When the duo began to write new songs, it made sense to merge their efforts with Samson's other new project called Hirsute. By 2008, Samson was involved writing songs in another project called Hirsute; along with Samson this group consisted of Michael O'Neill (Princess, Ladybug Transistor), Ginger Brooks Takahashi (LTTR, The Ballet) and Emily Roysdon. Peaches (musician)
Merrill Nisker (born 11 November 1966), better known by her stage name Peaches, is a Canadian electroclash musician and producer. Born in Ontario, Peaches began her musical career in the 1990s as part of a folk trio, Mermaid Cafe. In 1995, she established a rock band, the Shit. That year she also released her first solo album, ''Fancypants Hoodlum''. Samson (; , '' he, Šīmšōn, label= none'', "man of the sun") was the last of the judges of the ancient Israelites mentioned in the Book of Judges (chapters 13 to 16) and one of the last leaders who "judged" Israel before the institution of the monarchy. Iamsound (stylized IAMSOUND; formerly Iamsound Records) is an American entertainment company based in Los Angeles and founded by Niki Roberton. Iamsound comprises a creative and marketing studio, visual artist management firm, and independent record label. Record label Iamsound launched as a record label in 2007, and released albums from artists including Florence and the Machine, Charli XCX, Lord Huron, Banks (singer), Banks, and Salem (American band), Salem. "Off Our Backs" is the second pre-album-release single from MEN's debut album ''Talk About Body''. It was released on November 9, 2010, available on 7" vinyl, 12" vinyl and CD single/ EP. The track had previously been released on June 25, 2009 by "MEN MAKE MUSIC" (self-released) on a digital EP called "Limited Edition Demo" that included four tracks: the main single, two more songs - ''Credit Card Babies'' and ''Simultaneously'' - that would also later appear on Talk About Body, and the ''Jeppe's Money is a Major Issue Remix''. The title of the song is a nod to the feminist magazine of the same name "off our backs". The song's video features a tug-o-war between men and women with close-ups of sexually-implicit movements between members of the same sex. ''Labor'' is the second and final album from Brooklyn electropop band MEN. It was self-released on October 22, 2013, with full album streaming made available on Bandcamp as well as the New York Times interactive website. The album takes a subtler, more introspective approach than the band's overtly activist 2011 debut full-length, Talk About Body, although the single "Let Them Out Or Let Me In" supporting the Free Pussy Riot movement is included. After a shuffling of the band’s lineup since their debut, Samson has said she focused more on elements of transition and change for this self-released second album. By turning inward, Labor gives JD Samson & MEN greater accessibility. The reality that activist music can only go so far, this album serves to avoid restrictive genre terminology assigned to the band such as “LGBT music”. Pierre-Alexandre Busson (born 3 June 1977), better known as Yuksek, is a French electronic music producer, remixer, singer and DJ from Reims. Yüksek means "high" in Turkish. Biography Yuksek was born in Reims, France. Yuksek played the piano at the Conservatoire of Music until the age of 17 – the time he decided to give up his studies.
