New York And Harlem Railroad
The New York and Harlem Railroad (now the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line) was one of the first railroads in the United States, and was the world's first street railway. Designed by John Stephenson, it was opened in stages between 1832 and 1852 between Lower Manhattan to and beyond Harlem. Horses initially pulled railway carriages, followed by a conversion to steam engines, then on to battery-powered Julien electric traction cars. In 1907, the then leaseholders of the line, New York City Railway, a streetcar operator, went into receivership. Following a further receivership in 1932, the New York Railways Corporation converted the line to bus operation. The Murray Hill Tunnel now carries a lane of road traffic, but not the buses. The line became part of the New York Central Railroad system with trackage rights granted to the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad into Manhattan. It is now part of the Metro-North Railroad system, and the only Manhattan trackage of th ...

List Of Bus Routes In Westchester County
The Bee-Line Bus System, the bus system for Westchester County, operates a network of bus routes throughout Westchester County, serving destinations throughout much of the county and parts of The Bronx in New York City. Routes are sometimes identified with a "W" prefix for Westchester County (ex: W60), following the same system used by the MTA. This is most evident at bus stops in the Bronx and on some maps and other publications from the MTA and the New York City government. They are also sometimes identified with the "BL" prefix (ex: BL60 or B-L60) on some MTA maps and signage. Bee-Line does not officially use this nomenclature, with the exception of the BxM4C. These routes are listed below. This table gives details for the Bee-Line routes. For details on non-Bee-Line routes, see the following articles: * List of bus routes in the Bronx: Bx16 * List of express bus routes in New York City: BxM3 * Connecticut Transit Stamford: 971 Stamford-White Plains Express * Leprechaun Lin ...

List Of Bus Routes In Brooklyn
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) operates a number of bus routes in Brooklyn, New York, United States; one minor route is privately operated under a city franchise. Many of them are the direct descendants of streetcar lines (see list of streetcar lines in Brooklyn); the ones that started out as bus routes were almost all operated by the Brooklyn Bus Corporation, a subsidiary of the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation, until the New York City Board of Transportation took over on June 5, 1940. Only the B32, the eastern section of the B82 (then the B50), the B83, and the B84 were created by New York City Transit from scratch, in 1978, 1966, and 2013, respectively. New York City Board Of Transportation
The New York City Board of Transportation or the Board of Transportation of the City of New York (NYCBOT or BOT) was a city transit commission and operator in New York City, consisting of three members appointed by the mayor. It was created in 1924 to control city-owned and operated public transportation service within the New York City Transit System. The agency oversaw the construction and operation of the municipal Independent Subway System (IND), which was constructed shortly after the Board was chartered. The BOT later presided over the major transfers of public transit from private control to municipal control that took place in the 1940s, including the unification of the New York City Subway in 1940. In 1953, the Board was dissolved and replaced by the state-operated New York City Transit Authority, now part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
