The M78 is a short metropolitan route in Greater Johannesburg, South Africa. It is a short route connecting Illiondale with Klopper Park in the Edenvale/Germiston area of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Route The M78 begins at a junction with the R25 road in the suburb of Illiondale (south of Modderfontein and north-east of Edenvale CBD). It begins by going southwards through Illiondale to reach a junction with the M59 road (Terrace Road). It continues south as Harris Avenue, separating the Sebenza and Edenglen suburbs of Edenvale, to reach a junction with the M16 road (Baker Road) east of Edenvale CBD. The M16 joins the M78 and they are one road southwards for a few metres before the M16 becomes its own road eastwards (Harris Avenue) while the M78 remains as the southerly road (Shelton Road). Modderfontein (East Rand)
Modderfontein is a small town on the East Rand of Gauteng, South Africa. It began as a mining town adjacent to the Mud River, hence its name which is Afrikaans for Mud spring or fountain. It is located in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, adjacent to Kempton Park in the neighbouring City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Germiston, also known as kwaDukathole, is a small city in the East Rand region of Gauteng, South Africa, administratively forming part of the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality since the latter's establishment in 2000. The M59 is a short metropolitan route in Greater Johannesburg, South Africa. The entire route is in the western part of the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, particularly in Kempton Park and Edenvale. Route The M59 begins at a junction with the M37 road (Lungile Mtshali Road) in Edenvale (north of the town centre). It begins by going eastwards as Terrace Road, through the Eastleigh and Eden Glen suburbs, to reach a junction with the M78 road (Harris Avenue) and enter the industrial suburb of Sebenza. M16 is a metropolitan route in Johannesburg, South Africa. It begins in the north-western suburb of Greenside and heads eastwards through some of Johannesburg's northern suburbs and through Edenvale to end at the East Rand town of Kempton Park. Route Starting at an intersection with the M71 (Barry Hertzog Avenue) in Greenside, the route heads east as Greenhill Road to Parkview Golf Club. It then crosses the golf course and the Braamfontein Spruit as Wicklow Avenue. Crossing Emmarentia Avenue it continues south-east until it reaches a t-junction with Westcliff Drive and continues eastwards as the latter circling the Westcliff suburb and reaches the M27 road (Jan Smuts Avenue). The R24 is a major East-West provincial route in the Gauteng and North West provinces that links OR Tambo International Airport with Rustenburg via Johannesburg, Krugersdorp and Magaliesburg. The process of renaming the streets and freeway that form the route from Krugersdorp eastward to OR Tambo International after anti-apartheid stalwart Albertina Sisulu was completed in 2013. After passing through Central Johannesburg and some of Johannesburg's eastern suburbs (a section maintained by the Johannesburg Roads Agency, a department of the City of Johannesburg), the route becomes a freeway outside Eastgate Shopping Centre in Bedfordview, a section which is maintained by the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, part of the Gauteng Provincial Government.
