M6 (), also known as , is the most profitable private national French public television channel and the third most watched television network in the French-speaking world. M6 is the head channel of the M6 Group media empire that owns several TV channels, magazines, publications, movie production and media-related firms etc. It is owned by RTL Group. On 20 May 2021 it was announced that M6 Group, owners of the channel, has proposed a merger with TF1 Group, which owns TF1. On September 16, 2022, it was announced that the merger was officially abandoned. History M6 launched on 1 March 1987 at 11:15 am CET taking the place of TV6 (French TV channel), TV6. Metropole Télévision SA, commonly known as Groupe M6 ( en, M6 Group), is a French media holding company. It was formed around the Public television channel M6, launched in March 1987 by the CLT (RTL Télévision) and La Lyonnaise des Eaux. In addition to its audiovisual and digital media presence, some of the group's television channels are operated (including M6, W9, 6ter, Paris Première, Téva, Série Club) as well as the television channels of the Lagardères (Gulli, Canal J, TiJi, MCM, MCM Top and RFM TV), radio stations ( RTL, RTL2 and Fun Radio), and film and television production and distribution companies. Canal J (stylised as canal J) is a French pay public television channel dedicated to children's programming. It is aimed at children aged seven to fourteen. On 1 February 2019, M6 Group entered negotiations to acquire the television unit of Lagardère Active including Canal J. ''WOMEN!'' (french: Vous les femmes, "You women" premiered 2007) is a French sketch comedy show starring Judith Siboni and Olivia Côte. Season 1 was produced by David Lanzmann, seasons 2, 3 and 4 were produced by Christian Merret Palmair. It was originally shown on M6, before being adapted and broadcast abroad on numerous different channels. In France each of the 400+ sketches is considered an episode, whereas in the UK (where the show was retitled ''WOMEN!'') between ten and twenty sketches were put together to make one 30 minute episode. Comedy Written by and starring Judith Siboni and Olivia Côte, the pair play various female characters from different French socio-cultural backgrounds - BCBG mother, bachelorette, nymphomaniac lawyer, stressed office worker, consumer think tank - usually urban, aged between 25 and 35. Episodes center on the young protagonists' amusing attempts to solve and prevent crimes with the help of their seasoned superiors. Though their lack of experience creates many humorous situations, the series is primarily an action-adventure police drama. TV6 (French TV Channel)
TV6 was a French private and free national television channel dedicated to music and youth, created on March 1, 1986. One year later to the day, it was also the first to die live in the history of French television, on Saturday, February 28, 1987, at midnight (five years before La Cinq), a clear stop for political reasons following the parliamentary elections in the spring of 1986, which were lost by the majority and won by the opposition represented by Jacques Chirac. The new government (the first cohabiting government) had decided to undo the audiovisual achievements and projects of its predecessors (and political opponents) and in particular to reallocate the sixth channel to Métropole Télévision, thus leaving TV6 very little time to build its programs and demonstrate its audience progress. TF1 Group (french: Groupe TF1) is a French media holding company. Its best-known property is the broadcast network TF1. The group was formed after TF1 was privatized in April 1987. It is controlled with a 43% stake by Bouygues, and is quoted on Euronext Paris.
