The M45 is a long metropolitan route in Greater Johannesburg, South Africa. It connects Kempton Park with Dunnottar (north of Nigel) via Benoni, Brakpan, KwaThema and Tsakane. The entire route is in the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Route The M45 begins in Kempton Park, at a t-junction with the M57 Road (Pretoria Road) in the suburb of Allen Grove (2 kilometres north of the Kempton Park CBD). It begins by going eastwards as Van Riebeeck Road (separating Allen Grove from Kempton Park Extension 4) to reach a junction with the M91 Road (Monument Road). It continues eastwards, separating Aston Manor and Nimrod Park from Kempton Park Extension 4, to reach a junction with the M43 Road (Dann Road). Kempton Park, Gauteng
Kempton Park is a city in the East Rand region of Gauteng province, South Africa. It is part of the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. It is situated south of Tembisa, one of the largest townships in South Africa, which is also part of Ekurhuleni. South Africa's busiest airport, O. R. Tambo International Airport is located in Kempton Park. The name of the city is sometimes written as "Kemptonpark" in Afrikaans. History Kempton Park lies on what was two Boer farms in the South African Republic (ZAR). The first farm was ''Zuurfontein No 369'' with the title deed issued to Johannes Stephanus Marais on 25 October 1859 and surveyed to be 3000 morgen on 12 December 1859. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. The R51 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Bapsfontein with the N3 north of Villiers, via Springs, Nigel and Balfour. Route Gauteng The Route begins at Bapsfontein, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng at the 4-way intersection with the R25 Route and the R50 Route. As Pretoria Road, it heads south-south-west for 10 km up to Petit (East of Kempton Park and north-east of Benoni), where it meets the M44 Metropolitan Route and continues by way of a left turn to become Geldenhuys Street southwards. The N17 is a national route in South Africa which runs from Johannesburg to Oshoek (Ngwenya) on the border with Eswatini. It passes through Springs, Bethal and Ermelo. Background The section of the N17 from Johannesburg to Springs is a dual carriageway and is a national toll route. It was the first urban toll road in Gauteng. It runs from the M11 Wemmer Pan Road in Johannesburg to Tonk Meter Road in Springs. The first part of the N17 used to be the old R77 which ran from the M46 Rand Airport Road to the R23. The R29 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Johannesburg with Leandra and Kinross via Germiston, Boksburg, Benoni and Springs. For much of its route it is named Main Reef Road. The R29 used to end near the Golela border post, however the section from Evander to Ermelo is now part of the N17 (prior to construction of the N17 extension from Leandra to Evander, the N17 followed the alignment of R29 from Leandra; however, the extension of the N17 highway has resulted in the old section of the road being given to R29) and the section from Ermelo to the Golela border post just after Pongola is now part of the N2. EMalahleni
Witbank (), officially Emalahleni, is a city situated on the Highveld of Mpumalanga, South Africa, within the Emalahleni Local Municipality. The name Witbank is Afrikaans for "white ridge", and is named after a white sandstone outcrop where wagon transport drivers rested. The city is known for its coal-mining in the surrounding region. Witbank was renamed to Emalahleni meaning the ''place of coal'' in 2006 by the government of Mpumalanga, matching the municipality. Witbank was founded in 1890 and early attempts to exploit the coal deposits failed until the railway from Pretoria reached the area in 1894. It connects the Elandsfontein industrial suburb in the northern part of Germiston with Petit in the north-eastern part of Benoni. Route The M44 begins in the industrialized suburb of Elandsfontein (south of Isando) in the northern part of Germiston, at a junction with the M39 Road (Barbara Road). It begins by going eastwards as North Reef Road to reach a junction with the M57 Road (Kraft Road).
