The M28 road is a metropolitan route in the City of Tshwane in Gauteng, South Africa. It connects Irene with Monument Park via Pierre van Ryneveld Park. For its entire route, it is named Van Ryneveld Avenue. Route The M28 route starts at a junction with the M31 route (Nellmapius Drive) in Irene, adjacent to the Irene Village Mall. It heads northwards as Van Ryneveld Avenue to pass through the suburb of Pierre van Ryneveld Park before passing under the N1 highway (Danie Joubert Freeway; Pretoria Eastern Bypass) and reaching a junction with the eastern terminus of the M27 route (Theron Street). Irene (/aɪˈriːniː/ eye-ree-nee) is a small village on the eastern outskirts of Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa. Prehistoric inhabitants Though they left no historical writings of their own, records from other sources in the early 19th century refer to the Bakwena tribe, also known as the Crocodile people, who lived in the area. When Mzilikazi (whose people became known as the Matabele) came to the area in 1825, they killed many of the Crocodile people and drove the rest away. European settlement In the 1830s, a Boer Voortrekker named Daniel Elardus Erasmus left the Cape Colony and settled in the area near present-day Irene. Seeking economic and political independence in the hinterland, Erasmus built a farm that became known as Doornkloof. Doornkloof became known as the "kerkplaas" of the district. The M31 road is a metropolitan route in the City of Tshwane in Gauteng, South Africa. It connects the southern suburbs of Centurion, from the Rietvlei Nature Reserve to Rooihuiskraal via Irene and Highveld. Route The M31 route begins just south-west of the Moreleta Park suburb in southern Pretoria, at a junction with the R50 Route (Delmas Road). It begins by heading south-west for 4.5 kilometres, forming the northern border of the Rietvlei Nature Reserve and bypassing the Rietvlei Dam, to reach a junction with the M57 route (Goedehoop Avenue). It proceeds westwards as Nellmapius Drive to cross the R21 e-toll Highway and enter the southern suburbs of Centurion. The Pretoria Ring Road, also known as the Pretoria Bypass, is a collection of two bypasses that together form a partial ring road around the city of Pretoria, South Africa. It consists of a section of the N1 Highway (known as the Eastern Bypass) as well as a section of the N4 Highway (known as the Northern Bypass). The M27 road is a short metropolitan route in the City of Tshwane in Gauteng, South Africa. It is in the city of Centurion, connecting Rooihuiskraal with Pierre van Ryneveld Park via the Centurion CBD and Lyttelton. Route The M27 begins in Rooihuiskraal North, at a junction with the M37 route (Rooihuiskraal Road). It begins by heading eastwards as Theuns van Niekerk Street for a few metres before becoming Estcourt Avenue eastwards and reaching a junction with the R101 route (Old Johannesburg Road) in Hennopspark. Air Force Base Waterkloof is an airbase of the South African Air Force. It is situated on the outskirts of Pretoria, and is the SAAF's busiest airbase. The base's name, ''Waterkloof'', is Afrikaans. It means ''Water Ravine'' in English.
