Mikulin M-17
The Mikulin M-17 was a Soviet-licensed copy of the German BMW VI V-12 liquid-cooled aircraft piston engine, further developed by Alexander Mikulin and used by Soviet aircraft and tanks during World War II. Production began in 1930 and continued through 1942. More than 27,000 were produced, of which 19,000 were aircraft engines while the rest were used in Soviet tanks of the period. Acquisition and production The Soviets had bought examples of BMW's III and IV engines earlier in the 1920s and bought two examples of the VI engine in 1926 for evaluation. Following successful bench trials of the engine the Soviets decided to purchase a license for it. A deal was concluded in October 1927 after prolonged negotiations. The Soviets paid $50,000 and were to pay 7.5% of the price of each engine produced after the first fifty. In exchange, the German company was to inform the Soviets of all changes to the engine for a period of five years. Soviet engineers and technicians were to be tr ...

R-M17
Haplogroup R1a, or haplogroup R-M420, is a human Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup which is distributed in a large region in Eurasia, extending from Scandinavia and Central Europe to southern Siberia and South Asia. While R1a originated c. 22,000 to 25,000 years ago, its subclade M417 (R1a1a1) diversified c. 5,800 years ago. The place of origin of the subclade plays a role in the debate about the origins of Proto-Indo-Europeans. The SNP mutation R-M420 was discovered after R-M17 (R1a1a), which resulted in a reorganization of the lineage in particular establishing a new paragroup (designated R-M420*) for the relatively rare lineages which are not in the R-SRY10831.2 (R1a1) branch leading to R-M17. Origins R1a origins The split of R1a (M420) is computed to c. 22,000 or 25,000 years ago, which is the time of the last glacial maximum. A 2014 study by Peter A. Underhill et al., using 16,244 individuals from over 126 populations from across Eurasia, concluded that there was "a compelling ...

M17 (amateur Radio)
M17 is a digital radio modulation mode developed by Wojciech Kaczmarski ( amateur radio call sign SP5WWP) et al. M17 is primarily designed for voice communications on VHF amateur radio band and above. The project received a grant from the Amateur Radio Digital Communications in 2021 and 2022. The protocol has been integrated into several hardware and software projects. Overview M17 utilizes 4800 symbols per second 4FSK with a root Nyquist filter applied to the bitstream. Radio channels are 9 kHz wide, with channel spacing of 12.5 kHz. The gross data rate is 9600 bits per second, with the actual data transfer at 3200. Protocol allows for low-speed data transfer (along with voice), e.g. GNSS position data. The mode has been successfully transmitted through EchoStar XXI and QO-100 geostationary satellites. In 2021, Kaczmarski received the ARRL Technical Innovation Award for developing an open-source digital radio communication protocol, leading to further advancements in amate ...

M17 Agar
This bacterial growth medium was developed in 1971 for ''Lactococcus'' species isolated from milk products. It was originally called M16 medium, but in 1975 Terzaghi and Sandine added disodium- β-glycerophosphate to the medium as a buffer, and named the new growth medium M17 medium. It was later found that the addition of disodium-β-glycerophosphate inhibits the growth of many ''Lactobacillus'' species. Typical composition Per 950 mL: *5.0 g Pancreatic digest of casein *5.0 g Soy Peptone *5.0 g Beef extract *2.5 g Yeast extract *0.5 g Ascorbic acid *0.25 g Magnesium sulfate *19.0 g Disodium- β-glycerophosphate *11.0 g Agar Agar ( or ), or agar-agar, is a jelly-like substance consisting of polysaccharides obtained from the cell walls of some species of red algae, primarily from ogonori (''Gracilaria'') and "tengusa" (''Gelidiaceae''). BMW M17
The BMW M10 is an SOHC four-cylinder petrol engine which was produced from 1962-1988. It was BMW's first four-cylinder engine since the BMW 309 ended production in 1936 and was introduced in the New Class sedans. Over 3.5 million M10 engines were produced during the M10's 26 year production run, and it was used in many BMW models. The turbocharged BMW M12 engine— used in the Formula One racing— was based on the M10 engine block and produced up to in qualifying trim. Following the introduction of the BMW M40 engine in 1987, the M10 began to be phased out. Development Baron Alex von Falkenhausen— an engineer and racing driver— designed the M10 . In the late 1950s, he was asked to design an engine with a displacement of , however he felt that this would be insufficient for the company's future needs. Therefore, he convinced BMW that the capacity should be instead and he designed a block that could be expanded to in the future. Design The M10 has a forged cranksh ...
